In our previous two trips, we've eaten almost every meal at a character buffett. We have two young children and our strategy was to get them plenty of interaction with charaters while we sat and ate so we wouldn't have to stand in line in the parks to see them. Now that they are getting older we are scheduling a few normal restaurants for our next trip in October. :yay: We are on the DDP. We are have ADRs for dinner at Coral Reef and Kona. What are the best choices on the menu for entree and desert?

I love the filet at Kona. For dessert I had chocolate fondue and DS & his GF had Kona Kones. Excellent choice for dinner and the Poly is beautiful.

The strip steak at Coral Reef is really good. The atmosphere is an A+ and your kids will love it. For dessert everyone raves about the Chocolate Wave (but I didn't have it). DS-21 had the Build-your-own Sundae off the kids' menu.

You and your kids will really like both restaurants. :goodvibes

Also loved the filet at Kona!! And DH enjoyed his Prime Rib. For dessert I had the Kileau Torte and it was Wonderful!! This was before the fondue was there, that sounds delish too. I don't remember what DH had. Since you're on the DDP, at least when we went, you could get smoothies as your drink. my raspberry one was very good.

Kona has changed their menu a lot since we were there last 10 months ago. Items still on the menu that we love are the macadamian mahi mahi and the shrimp and scallops. The chocolate macadamia tart is wonderful.

At CR I love the catfish. Can't go wrong with the crab legs. Not impressed with the chocolate wave but DH liked the creme brulee (butterscotch?).

In 9/07, Kona wouldn't let us get smoothies as our drink but CR did. Not sure what the situation is in 2008.

CR is our favorite restaurant at a WDW park!! I love the catfish and grits!!! DS17 loves the steak, the creme brule, and the soup.... oh, and anything else he can con someone out of off their plate...:thumbsup2 DD16 wanted pizza so she wasn't the happiest, but loved the steak. DD's BFF said the salad was really good and the shrimp.

Have a great time!!!

At Coral Reef I highly recommend the strip steak! It came with a salad with vinaigrette dressing (honestly the best I've ever had!) and fantastic potatoes!! For dessert I recommend, of course, the Chocolate Wave.....I know some don't like it, but for us it was absolutely heavenly! My kids ordered chicken tenders off the kids menus and loved them too!

We've never eaten at Coral Reef, but Kona has awesome prime rib and filet :thumbsup2. And we LOVE the cheesecake for dessert .

We went to Kona last Oct and I loved DHs teriyaki steak and the sticky wings...the bread and butter is awesome too!

ITA :thumbsup2
CR has the absolutely best steak on property (in both DH & my opinions, LC's filet minon & strip steak don't even compare).
& the chocolate wave isn't just good, it's pure decadence :cloud9:

I couldnt agree more! I loooooved the terriyaki steak and the bread and butter is yummy too. Try the banana creme brullee. Yummylicious!!!!

I'm not the type that can get too excited about a steak on vacation but I have to say the filet at Kona was quite good.

Kona entree = Shrimp & Scallops or Barbeque Pork Chop.
Kona dessert = Kiddie Cone.

coral reef is hands down my favorite restaurant in all of disney. the strip steak is out of the world. highly, highly recommend this restaurant and this dish. another dessert option besides the wave is the whiskey moose.

At Coral Reef I had the best tasting steak ever in my life!!! Done medium well...it was awesome...no need to use steak sauce...OMG seriously it was really good!

We do Kona the first night of every trip. I adore/dream about/crave the coconut chicken. Here's the official description:

Coconut Almond Chicken - sauteed chicken breast served with Asian greens tossed with honey-lime dressing, golden pineapple, strawberries, and toasted almonds $16.49

Then we step out to the beach, grab a frozen bev from the bar by the pool, and watch Wishes and EWP. So romantic.:lovestruc

At Kona:

I had the Prime Rib. Very tasty. Came with horseradish sauce in a cup on the side.

My sister's teriyaki strip steak? :thumbsup2
My mom's replacement entree (after not liking the bland Ono whitefish)...
the Best (Most Tender) Pork Chop She Ever Had in Her LIFE. Also known as the Pomegranate Glazed Pork Chop. :thumbsup2
My mom's friend got the Coconut Almond Chicken, and she gave it :thumbsup2
I tasted my mom's and sister's dishes, and both were very flavorful. I give them the :thumbsup2 as well.

I haven't been to the Coral Reef in a few years, so I am sure I have nothing valid to offer. ;)
