We drove from MD to Orlando for the first time this past May. On the way down, we stopped in Augusta, GA to visit one of my friends so we stayed overnight there. The next morning we were about 6 hours from Orlando. We had planned on driving straight through on the way back but were too tired, so we ended up staying at a Hampton Inn in Rock Hill, SC. It ended up being about the half way point.

We are driving again from MD to Orlando in a few months. This time we are not visiting my friend in Augusta. Any recommendations on somewhere to stay overnight? We'd like to be about 4 hours from Orlando but I have no idea how to come up with where that would be. We will be taking the 81/77/95 route (can't remember if there are any other between 77 and 95) so I guess we would be on 95 by then?

Same question for the drive back... We are not even going to try to drive straight through. We are leaving FL in the morning so I think we could definitely make it farther than Rock Hill, SC. We will want to make it at least 10 hours that day, maybe 12.

We are partial to Hampton Inns but open to any suggestions. Thanks!

We usually stop in South Carolina or North Carolina on our way down/back and have stayed at the Hampton Inn Florence, SC & the Hampton Inn Smithfield/Selma, NC. These might be ones for you to consider for your return trip. We haven't ever made it as far as Georgia- yet- so I can't recommend any closer to Disney. If you search I 95 exit guide you can find a site that lists the exits by state and it also lists lodging and food for each exit. To figure out driving time between cities/states try travelmath.com. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Savannah is about 5 hours from WDW. We've stopped there on several drives but we always stay in the city itself because we love the sights. For just overnight stopping though there are lots of name-brand hotels on I-95 in that area that would be good choices.

Yes, the hotels along 95 at the Savannah exits are perfect. For us, it's a 10-11 hour drive from home but our attitude is that we are on the road, might as well do as much as possible day one and just go to the hotel to sleep. On our first trip, we stopped at dinnertime and just stared at each other and the tv until we went to sleep LOL.

From Savannah, you are 4-5 hours away, and you have time to stop at the Florida Welcome Center in the morning for your free OJ! Then you'll arrive at check-in time or close to it.

We like a Country Inn and Suites at Savannah. Breakfast is good, location is good and the rooms are clean and comfy.

We always drive from NJ to WDW every August. We used to stop in Florence/Lumberton. And now we like to stop on Jacksonville. It is a bit less than 3 hrs and we usually get a Residence Inn for around $80 including breakfast.

Thanks for the suggestions! Savannah is perfect, I just booked the savannah 1-95s Hampton inn for $87. It should be about 11 hours of driving on day one and under 5 on day 2. Our check in is at 1 so we can eat lunch and get groceries and have plenty of time.

On the way back we are thinking Roanoke, VA? Should be about 11.5 hours from Orlando according to maps.

Brunswick, GA is about 4 hours from WDW and has a lot of hotels right off the exit.

How come you're going inland route, are you from that part of MD? Just checked out where Roanoke is and it just seemed out of the way.
