Hi there, we are DVC members with VGC as our home resort. We are planning on doing an extended family (me, dh, dd, ds, my brother, sil, and their 3 kids as well as my mom) vacation to WDW in June 2011.

We want to use our DVC points to book the room(s). My question was what would be the recommended resort to get the best room for the least amount of points?

Dh, the kids and I have stayed at SSR before and were happy with it. Proximity to the parks is important, but most important is getting the best room(s) we can for as few points as possible.

So far we have looked at OKW, SSR (treehouse and GV) - any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I would recommend OKW or BW standard view. These are the best value point wise. BW will be hard to get at 7 months as only 20% of the rooms are standard view. The OKW rooms are the biggest but BW is near Epcot and HS.If you book OKW, I would recommend trying to book near the Hospitality House. Good Luck with your decision. :goodvibes

It might be easier to get two one bedroom villas at OKW than to get the GV. Each one bedroom would sleep five, so your group would fit if your Mom stayed in your villa with you. A single two bedroom would only sleep nine.

A GV could be hard to get. I know we have one already for June for a week and I made that reservation exactly at 11 months out.

BWV and BCV only sleep four in the one bedroom (no sleeper chair like at OKW). BWV only has six or seven GV and those go very quickly. None at BCV.

Or you could always go with three studios.

Old Key West without question. It is by far the best resort for value and space which you need for an extended family vacation. We love OKW !

I would also vote for OKW; you may want to consider doing a 2 bedroom and a studio. We find this works well for pretty much any size group, the combination of a 2 bedroom and as many studios as you need. This way you get the large gathering space but there is some privacy for times when it's needed as well. You can always shuffle a kid or two around depending on the ages, too, and Grandma is more likely to get an actual bed instead of a sleeper at OKW. Just a thought...;)

I totally agree! You can't beat the space.

I agree with the 2BR and studio combo at OKW- depending on the ages of the children and if any of them will share a bed - You will have a king bed, 2 queen beds, a pull out sofa and a sleeper chair if all the villas are renovated by then in the 2 BR and 2 queen beds in the studio. If there are young children you will also have pack and plays available in each unit. We found it offered more options than the GV although the GV does have 4 bathrooms. I haven't checked the points for these two options but when we did it for Christmas one year the 2BR, studio combo was cheaper than the GV. have fun planning your trip.
