Can anyone suggest some communities or areas that are similar to Windsor Hills - but further north - like Dr. Philips area or Altamonte Springs. I am looking for a large house for 2 families with pool, but prefer a gated type of community with pool etc.
Any help is appreciated.

Short term rental, long term or to buy?

I like Clermont, fl in Lake County

now there are not gated communities - or many that way.

if you want gated might try Davenport in Polk County -south of Kissimmee

Gated is not mandatory, but I like the community pool idea. I would like to find something north of Kissimmee around highway 4 so that an shorter drive can be made to Daytona.

There is a huge difference, distance-wise, between Dr. Philips and Altamonte Springs. Dr. Philips would be quite close and convenient to WDW, whereas Altamonte Springs would be a significant drive in horrible traffic. I am not aware of any short-term rentals in Dr. Philips as I don't believe it is zoned for it.

Unless you are driving to Daytona more frequently than you are driving to the WDW area, I don't think you would enjoy being off I4 very far north of WDW as the I4 traffic is very heavy.

Orange County--which is where Dr. Phillips is--does not allow short-term rentals. I don't think Seminole--Altamonte and surrounding area--allows them either.

That's the reason all the close rental communities are centered around Kissimmee--different county.

Thanks. That's some good information. I hear so many names of communities, but didn't realize where they were.
Has anyone ever seen a map showing the different communities most commonly mentioned on this board?
We have stayed at Windsor Hills twice and it was great, but looking for a house this time and maybe a different location.

We used vrbo.com and rented a 4-bedroom villa in High Grove - where the 192 becomes the 27 (Clermont). Only about 15 minutes to get to WDW via Sherbeth Road.

try this
Ocoee and Winter Garden - might work

Those are both Orange County--no short term rental homes.

Most rental houses are clustered in one of three places--near Windsor Hills (off Old Lake Wilson road close to 192), near Reunion/Champions Gate (exit 58 or down Old Lake Wilson Road from Windsor Hills), or in the Cagan Crossing area of Clermont (west out 192 where it dead ends into 27). Hopefully that helps give you your bearings.

All of these are more or less west of WDW--on other words, the opposite side from Daytona.

I don't mean to steer you away--everyone I know who's tried a rental home agrees it's the way to go.

You might find this map helpful for choosing a sub-division location:

As noted above, there isn't much of anything in Orange County. Vista Cay somehow has managed to do it, so it isn't impossible, but they only have townhomes/condos---nothing big enough for two families.
