We need to purchase a new printer for our home computer. Right now we have a HP DeskJet 722 which we've had for many years.

I would like to get a new printer that will also print photos as well as regular text. Can someone recommend a printer that will print good quality photos for around $200 or so. I was at Office Depot an was looking at the HP 8250, but the reviews say the photo quality is not all that good. Other recommendations? Thanks

I would just get a cheap printer and order photo prints online or where you can bring a CD. The cost of ink etc make it more expensive to print them at home and you really can't buy a printer that will match the quality of a commercial photo print facility.

Last year I bought an Epson CX6600 printer which is a scanner, printer, and copier. It was rated well at www.cnet.com . I also like my printer because it has a card reader that can read 3 different memory cards which is very convenient for a family like us who has 3 different digital cameras.

Of course, not only is the printing quality important, but also the cost of ink :faint: . There was a post on cheaper printer ink on the Community Board which mentioned some online stores with compatible printer ink.

I would suggest for photos looking at the Epson Picture Mate. It only prints 4x6 but cost per print is 21 cents. They also last longer than traditional developing and printing. If you buy a printer under $200 it uses dye based inks which are not archival.

I suggest looking at www.wilhelm-research.com for archival information.

If you aren't concerned about archival life I suggest looking at the Epson R 200 or R340.

If you are only printing at 4x6 yes you can find places that will print them cheaply but if you are printing at 5x7 or larger it is cheaper to print them at home. With some printers they will last longer than the ones you get printed online or at the store.

Epson Durabrite Ink is very good .

I also always recomend a print with all 4 colors separet this will save on ink in the long run.

Most printers come with separate cartridges. To do photos you should look at printers that have at least 6 colors or more.

EPSON:The best bang for your buck!

DPI:dots per inch...look for the highest concentration
of it!

Probably get one for around $100-125

Good Luck!
