Any recommendations for a new washer and dryer my washer died and both are 18 years old.

I bought the samsung washer/dryer less than a year ago. Got them on sale at Best Buy. I wish I would have gone with LG.

My dryer broke Jan 2nd. Had a repairman come in and was told there was a wire that was never connected and was causing a short. He said it was fixed. Got one load dried before we heard this clunking and smelled burnt rubber. A different repairman came and said the belt frayed but he patched it and it would last until the new part came in, within one week. Did one load again and the thing just stopped running. The repair shop can't tell me when the part will be in. I was told 3-5 days then on the 5th day was told 11-15 days.

I've called Samsung and they keep saying i need to work through the shop.

We recently moved and needed a new washer and dryer. I researched and researched and decided to go with an old fashioned Matag with an agitator. It even had reviews saying it was noisy, and the first time i ran it it WAS! But since then, it has been fine. I've only had it 3 months, but no problems so far.

Honestly, all the horror stories about mold, wrinkling, and worse yet, breaking with no repairing at 3-5 years,of the new types, scared me. This was cheap, if it dies in 5 years i can buy a new set and probably be under the price for the new and fancy!

Good luck!

I would not get another LG anything even if it was free. We spent a small fortune on a front load LG washer 12 months and 3 weeks later it is toast. I called the number in the book and they said it was not under warranty. If you read the book parts are for more than one year. I told the lady if you look on page ....you will see it is covered. I guess they hope you don't read the book. Needless to say they finally sent a repairman out and he said the brains of the machine were gone. He replaced it lasted 1.5 weeks and died again. This time they refuse to talk to me. Do you know there are few LG repairmen in Mass. Most stores LG told me to call said they will not fix them anymore. Also it you are thinking front loader you should read about them they are clearly not without issues. Do you know you have to leave the door open all the time or they mold? My LG had a drain hose on the front panel and if you read the book you are supposed to pull out the hose and drain excess water after each load? Even the people at the store did not know what the door was for. Do you really want to drain water into a milk jug or similar everyday. I would have been fine if they fixed it or went with the warranty they print but they do not stand behind their product. So now I have a $300 GE disposable washer. Loud as can be but my clothes have not smelt so clean since forever. Just do your homework and research the pros and cons of each brand

I just got the whirlpool cabrio pair. I have the agitatorless washer with a huge tub and matching dryer. Really like both of them.

I'm buying a Kenmore top loader and matching dryer next week (actually Sears is having a good sale on Kenmore this week, so I'm probably going to pay for them tomorrow and put a hold on the delivery date).

I've heard 10:1 that people with the energy efficient front loaders hate them. They stink, they don't clean as well, and they don't last half as long for double the money. So, I'm buying an "old-fashioned" set while they still sell them.:thumbsup2

My Maytag Bravos won't dispense the fabric softener. It stopped on week 56 - 2 weeks after the warranty went out. I do like the dryer.

Me too, and I have had mine since 2007, and I have never had a prob with them. I never get the mold issue others with HE washers talk about. The washtub is also huge and the dryer is a steam dryer.

^^ This ^^ We love our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer. They both hold a huge amount of clothes, use as little water as front loaders (even though they are top loaders, and do an amazing job cleaning the clothes. (Our dryer is a top loader too, which makes switching from washer to dryer really easy.)

I don't know what brand but...

Our apartment complex just installed new washers and dryers. They are the HE kind and the washers have front-loads.

I HATE front load washers. The basin is too small and when you open the door, your clothes fall out onto the dirty floor. Perhaps your own home won't have as dirty floors as our complex rooms, though. But, I never had this problem before with front-loading dryers.

Plus, I don't have the best back on the planet and loading and unloading is much harder when you are stooped over trying to fit your clothes in OR taking them out when they are wet and much heavier.

Amyway, this is something to think about besides just how well they get clothes clean and dry.

I have a Maytag Neptune set for 5 years now (top load no agitator) & no problems. I do have the Drying unit - LOVE IT! It was $$ to buy but has saved us so much in dry cleaning bills. The bottom is a regular dryer & the top is a cabinet where you can steam dry or just shake/vibrate dry your delicate items. You can also use the cabinet just to refresh items - this is great for DH who wears suits. I would definitely buy this drying unit again!

I bought the Whirlpool duet (with steam) about 5-6 years ago and have had NO problems. I moved into a condo where they didn't fit but my sister has them now.

I couldn't believe how well they washed my clothes. I accidentally put in a shirt that had a lot of dried blood on it. I meant to pretreat, etc. It was also white. Came out perfect with no stains at all.

I also got the pedestals so no stooping involved at all.

We have had our duets for 7 years and absolutely LOVE them! I do leave the door open just a little for the washer to completely dry out, but we have never had the problems others have mentioned with front loaders.
