Recommendation for dog chews

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Ok...so where do you buy them?

They are everywhere here for obvious reasons :lmao: Most pet stores carry them. I get mine from the grocery store. They are not cheap. The big long ones :rotfl2:are about 18 inches long  and ten bucks cad here, They last a really long time...but they really smell :faint:

Another vote for Nylabones, but not the softer ones that are for puppies. Make sure however that you throw them away when the end are getting chewed off as there are stories of dogs breaking off pieces and getting those lodged in their stomachs. At the first sign that the bone is worn down and/or your dog is able to break off a piece, PITCH IT!

Congrats on your 1000 post!

Rawhide is not digestible for dogs. We give our dog bully sticks. If you do not know what a bully stick is check here. You may not want to check this until after supper:lmao: Gotta love that Alberta Beef!:rotfl2:

Another bully stick lover here. Although we do the Kong thing, too. :rotfl: We almost parted ways with our bully sticks when DH found out what they were. It gave hm a complex, I think. :lmao: Luckily for Aurora's sake, he recovered.

We buy bones at the grocery store, meat department. The ones we get are usually found in a round steak or similar. They last FOREVER and we buy them for about $1 for 3-5 bones. Our 10 pound wonder dog chews through the Nylabones in about a day. She also likes braided ropes. Those last quite a while and make good fetch toys too.

Thanks for the replies. I've tried a Kong with peanut butter in it - she didn't touch it. I've tried freezing chicken broth cubes and putting them in a Kong - she didn't touch it. She barely touches a Nylabone, has toys and ropes but doesn't spend a lot of time playing with the. She is still attached to me with a leash and is a royal pain while I'm trying to work if she doesn't have something to keep her busy.

I broke down this afternoon and bought a rawhide stick with beef basting. She loves it. The only problem is the beef basting is now all over my carpet. Oh well, I can clean the carpet. Hopefully it won't give her any funky smells. :faint:

Our dog didn't like the rubbery toys as a puppy either. She really liked the braided ropes from the start. I would try the grocery store bones like we get. They usually have some meat or marrow left on them to get them started. Our dog was at the vet yesterday and he commented on how nice her teeth are. We never brush them but she chews these bones a lot.

My dog (a Weimaraner) is a big time chewer and is also very needy.....has to be next to me at all times. She isn't a huge fan of the rubbery bones and toys and we refuse to give her rawhide products because she gets very agressive with them (not to mention they are bad for her).

Check out the link below.....We give her the bones in the bottom of the picture that we get from Petsmart. They are stuffed with different flavors and keep her busy for hours. You might try that and see how it works.

I don't use greenies or rawhide because of the digestive issues. I have used Kongs in the past but I had a friend whose large dog somehow got one stuck in it's throat and died. It was a large dog and the kong was not the correct size. It was awful. Because my dogs are 2 different sizes, I now avoid Kongs-there would be no way to keep my big dog away from the little dog toy...I also now buy all large toys and the smaller dog plays with them too-that way no worries! For mouthy dogs I have used the "chilly" dog toy. It is a toy that goes in the freezer and chills their gums when they chew on it. Both my dogs loved it. I have also used frozen wash cloths, but am not all that comfortable with that as I feel they could swallow them whole or in shreds and have digestive issues. I always stayed right with them if I offered that as a treat.Good luck!

Pigs ears, pig snouts, bully sticks and real filled bones that we refill with peanut butter. My dogs love to chew and these have worked out the best for us.

Our collie is not a fan of Kongs so we get the hollow marrow bones from Petsmart and stick a little peanut butter or liver treat inside it to get him to chew. It's easy, inexpensive and those things last quite a while.
