Looking for recommendations for what you'd consider the most amazing stick type vac you have or have used.

We are not dead set on cordless or corded, so serve up a recommendation if you've got one.

Our current situation is:
Family of five
Two pets - so lots pet hair
This would be primarily for the main floor which is 70% hardwood, 30% carpet

I need something that is easy for teens to handle, because these parents make their kids do chores, which involves the floors
I need something that has suction, but doesn't tangle every little thing it comes across
I need something that is going to last

We have a robo vac that does nothing, that thing is possessed, no matter where we set it down, or what cycle we put it on, it makes a beeline to the office and goes straight under the sitting chairs to get stuck.

Oohh vacuum. No recs but I was super confused about the type of budget vacation you were looking for as that's how I read the title 😀

Anything made by Shark. I currently have the Shark Rocket Pet Pro cordless. It's fantastic.
We have a Shark navigator now, It's about 4 years old, it worked super great when we first got it, but now it hardly picks anything up, even with washing the filter, cleaning the hoses, etc. DH even takes the air compressor to it to make sure all the particles are cleared out. I guess 4 years is about how long these last now-a-days

I've had my Shark Navigator for 9 years. Still works as well as the day I bought it. Call Shark. They have a 5 year warranty. They will probably send you a new one for free.

Shark vertex was on sale for less than $200 around Christmas I believe. I tested one from shark for four weeks. It was amazing—so much better than my Dyson v8 absolute. Not necessarily inexpensive but can be a great value if you get it on sale.

I got an Aposen brand one off Amazon. It works great on our carpet, laminate wood, and tile! I want to say it was right around $100.

Oh I am checking out what everyone has to say.. this is perfect timing for me... I want a new stick vacuum...

We have lightly texture tile floors they look like wood, all down stairs, and carpet on the stairs and up stairs in the bedroom and loft area, and normal tile in the bathroom..

The texture tile floors are so beautiful and a pain to deal with when it comes to cleaning..

So I need something with serious suction, and attachments ... and easy to handle and not heavy... I have been thinking about a Dyson... the price is just shocking... my friend suggested a Shark... I just started my research...

Thoughts on these 2 products or suggestions... would be much appreciated... Thanks

I'll tell you why I don't like my Dyson and prefer Shark--you have to hold the trigger (not sure if that's the name) while you use it. Can't just turn it on and use it. Shark doesn't have this stupid design element. Otherwise, I'm mostly pleased with my Dyson V8 absolute and would never buy a regular vacuum again after using a cordless stick vacuum (it's amazing what they pick up). If I had to replace my Dyson, I'd buy a Shark Vertex in a heartbeat.

I have a Shark Rocket, ultra-lite corded stick vacuum I bought from Target a few years ago. I'm looking to replace it because I don't think it does a great job any more.
One pet that sheds a lot.

Don't have pets, but we use a small shop vacuum type sweeper mostly for tile/hardwood floors but also works on carpeting, works great, easy to use and easy to clean. Might look for ones that specifically are for pets since the hair can clog and cause issues. Have NO idea why some of those trendy vacs are so expensive. Honestly, they all spin a motor to create suction and many have some sort of rotating bristle brush. We have a tiny 'stick' vacuum for the car and would never buy again. Not enough suction, too small, filter clogs easily and the container need frequent emptying.

Make sure to see how much the replacement filters cost and how often it is recommended to change. You can easily spend a LOT on filters that makes the bargain purchase price misleading. I would also get one with a cord vs battery power to avoid the hassle of recharging and added cost of replacing the battery. Battery power is really only of benefit if you do a lot of sweeping somewhere there aren't electrical outlets. In your home, every room likely has several outlets.

I read this quiet a bit in the reviews for the DV8. It's been on good sale at Target off and on the past few months, but even at the sales price point the darn tootin thing should have an ON button

^^ Designing something like a power tool (drill/portable saw/etc.) where you have to hold the 'on' button as a safety feature makes sense, but makes NO sense on a vacuum.

Honestly, it's a great vacuum and picks up so much. But never again.

I think the idea was it was save the battery because would never be on unless you are actually vacuuming. But honestly it's not saving much power. And I could be wrong.

As far as the cordless vs corded, I'm just going to say cordless is super freeing. I've had my Dyson for > 2 years and battery is still perfect. My house is 2200 square feet (tile, hardwood, area rugs, wall-to-wall carpet), and I have never even come close to running out of battery. And I know some Shark's come with two (and I want to say the run-time on them is > 1 hour). We got my mom a cordless Shark for Christmas and it came with two batteries. I will never own a corded vacuum again.

Do you recall which Shark you got your mom ?

I've seen some reviews that a few models have different modes and the higher mode drains the battery really fast. (Several people mentioned around 15 mins run time)

We got her this one in December:

I think maybe it's been discontinued???

Maybe I'm crazy or my house isn't that big but I rarely vacuum for more than 15 minutes at a time. :rotfl2:

ETA actually this is the one we got (but I think we got it on sale for about $280): https://www.pcrichard.com/Shark/Shark-IONFLEX-2X-Cordless-Ultra-Light-Stick-Vacuum/IF252.pcrp

Hi Everyone... OP to post above...

I made a decision... After much researching... I ended up with this one...

Drum roll please...

I bought a Shark Rocket duo clean... Corded ultra light, and has one attachment.. XL capacity... you can use it on Carpet, and tile, and other flooring... Double roller... swivel head, which is really great with my furniture... It has a really long cord... and I can do all the down stairs area without moving to unplug and move to another plug in.. which it really great... so I have to only move it once... Its kinda tealish blue...

It is a bit top heavy, but I keep everything in a closet so I don't have to worry about it falling over... and I am use to leaning my old stick vacuum..so no big deal for me.

I picked it up at Lowes, 250.00 plus 5% off with credit card purchase...

Very happy with it... I could tell a huge difference right away... I have textured tile, and it worked beautifully... and since I had some left over money, I bought a steam mop.. so Yay,... And Go Me... LOL
