Recommendation for a hotel in Va.

We are traveling back from Disney on Easter weekend. We are looking for a hotel somewhere right off of 95 somewhere before Richmond. Any sggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Never mind...I mis-read and thought you were traveling down TO Disney....Fredericksburg will be AFTER Richmond if you are coming FROM Disney. Sorry for the confusion!

I don't necessarily have an exact hotel to recommend, but a specific area I would look at is the "Central Park" area of Fredericksburg--which is off I-95 at exit 130.

There are a bunch of hotels there, just about every chain restaurant, Target, Walmart Super Center, a small mall (Spotsylvania Town Center), Wegmans Grocery Store, movie theater, bowling alley...I think it would make a very good area to stop, especially if you'll need to eat out, pick up a few additional supplies for the road, etc.

I would be very careful in selecting a place south of Richmond. It can be pretty sketchy around Petersburg and South Richmond. I'd keep driving into Richmond and stay in a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. I would recommend staying with a national chain. You can see some sketchy mom and pop type hotels from the highway, but I wouldn't stay there.

I was going to recommend here as well! This would be less than an hour past Richmond...if you could possibly go a little further, I think this would be your best bet area~

I agree with the others. It would be worth the time to drive a little further and stop in Central Park, Fredericksburg. The area is very nice, safe and you will have a large selection of places to eat. There are three newer hotels over by the convention center that I would recommend. I believe one of them is a Homewood Suites. You are better off back in this area than at one of the hotel chains immediately off of 95.

If you make it a bit further, north of Richmond, I've stayed in a Sleep Inn off I85 that was very inexpensive and very nice. (It's about five miles south of Kings Dominion, sorry I can't remember the exit).

I also agree you want to be north of Richmond if at all possible. If you don't want to drive the extra hour to Fredericksburg, that's fine, but I wouldn't do south of Richmond off of 95.

If you do decide on the Fredericksburg area, you could also hit some of the newer hotels right off 95 on rt. 1 at the massaponax exit. They will be a bit cheaper than the Central Park hotels. Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, etc. just stay clear of the budget and non-chain hotels there.

I live in Hanover County (and I love it BTW ). If you decide to take the bypass around Richmond (295 North), you can jump off at exit 37A (Tappahannock) and there are two nice hotels right there (Holiday Inn Express and a Hampton Inn), plus an IHOP, Cracker Barrel, Taco Bell, Chick Fil A, Starbucks, Panera, Target, Applebees.....anyway, it's really easy on and off 295 and then easy to get back on 95 N and then you avoid going thru downtown Richmond.

BUT, depending on the time of day and if you aren't tired, I would get as close to DC as I could (and past it if I could). Traffic around Northern VA is ugly most of the time.

Depending on the day you are travelling, traffic may be horrible. From Disney to this area would normally be about 12 (plus add in stops) hours of actual driving. You may find it quite a bit longer due to traffic, especially on Friday or Saturday.

The last couple of exits in NC have all the usual chain hotels and cracker barrel, etc. I think the exit numbers are 173-176.

After you cross into Virginia, Emporia has Fairfield by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express, Country Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn, Days Inn, Quality Inn, Best Western and more. And the requisite Cracker Barrell.

Thanks so much for all of your help. I am guessing we are going to try and make it beyond Richmond (going North). It should make for 12 or 13 hours of quality family time!
