I'm planning a trip during a week that will include our son's birthday who will be turning three at that time, and am wondering which restaurants you would recommend. I am also considering having a cake made for him by Disney.

Have any of you had good experiences with a particular restaurant for a child's birthday? Or am I overthinking this, and I should just pick the restaurant he would like regardless of whether it's his birthday.

my big question to ask is will he like whatever attention is directed at him??? My son turned 3 while we there and I absolutely knew he'd melt down over singing or cakes etc. Whatever you do - you're wise to think about it. :) He's 3. He may or not really remember. :)

I think the only thing you should consider is what characters you think he might like. Maybe do a character meal for his b-day if he's into that. My son loves Donald Duck so we had his 6th birthday at Chef Mickey's. Goofy (Not Donald) brought his cake over he loved it!! Disney really does an awesome job with celebrating b-days. My husband surprised me for my b-day last year at Cali Grill with the most beautiful cake! You need to go to the Cake Chatter thread on the restaurants board I believe. If I'm wrong someone will let you know. I'm sure he'll have a GREAT b-day at whatever rest. you choose.

Hi! Have you guys tried T-Rex at DTD? It's really loud, but so much fun! If your son has issues with loud noises and flashing lights this may not be the palce for him-but if he is okay with all that...it has meteor showers, moving dinosaurs, build-a-dino, free B-day deserts and pretty good food too.

I have 3 boys and this is always a must for us!

I would say a character meal also with whatever characters he likes...maybe even consider a bday breakfast since they tend to have better food than dinners. If you don't want to do a character meal, he might also like Teppan Edo, T-Rex or Rainforest (not on DDP), or 'Ohana...they all have fun atmospheres.

My first thought was a character meal, but then started thinking, when my daughter was 3 she was absolutely terrified of the characters when they got close---from a distance she would be all :yay: then they'd get close and she'd be :scared1:

(good use of smilies LOL) But that's exactly what I was thinking.

When DS was 4 his best "Birthday" meals were chef Mickey's dinner & Cape May Breakfast.

Thanks everyone! DS absolutely loves Mickey, so any character meal with him in it would probably work out great.

Goofy (Not Donald) brought his cake over he loved it!! Disney really does an awesome job with celebrating b-days.

I'm assuming characters bringing the cake over doesn't always happen, but if Mickey did that for him, that would just make his day!

I'll have to keep T-rex in mind. I had an ADR for T-rex for our last trip, but cancelled it about four weeks before our trip after I took my DD4 to NYC Toysrus at Times Square. They have that animatronic T-Rex inside the toy store. She saw it from across the store, stopped in her tracks,:scared1:, then turned around and told me we're going the other way. :lmao: She did NOT want to go near it. After that, I pretty much knew taking her to T-rex restaurant would end in meltdowns. Perhaps I'll take them to the Toysrus again for another test run for both of them a little bit before our next trip.;)

We did 1900 Park Fare for DD(3) and Chef Mickey's for DD(5) they loved both and DD(3) ended up getting a cupcake and sang to at DD(5)'s birthday too. She was upset because she didn't get the cupcake when she had gotten it the night before so the waitress said "Oh you should celebrate your birthday the WHOLE WEEK you are here!" she came out a few minutes later and they sang to and brought DD(3) a cupcake too!

It depends on your kid though... the characters can be overwhelming if he has never seen them before!

Chef mickeys, they use to have a special birthday song but not sure if they do it anymore.
