Might be doing a day trip this week to NYC, specifically midtown Manhattan. Can anyone recommend any specific parking garage for all day? Preferably within walking distance of the Rockefeller Plaza area?

(we're driving up from near Philly)

Find a few possibilities before you leave. Midtown garages can vary greatly in rates. You should be able to find one for under $30 for the day. Beware of the "tourist trap" ones who charge by the 1/2 hour (in very fine print). Just google "parking garages in NYC near xxx"

How many are there in your group? It might be cheaper to do park in Secaucus, NJ at the Harmon Meadows Plaza or at Mill Creek, in the parking lots there. LOTS of hotels & shopping, so they won't have a problem with an extra car there all day. Then hop in the NJ #320 bus at the bus stop enclosure on Plaza Dr. (around the corner from Outback Steakhouse,) that takes you right to the Port Authority bus terminal, (8th Ave & 42nd St) in 20 minutes, for about $4.50 per person. If there's only 2-3 of you, that's a lot cheaper than paying to drive into the city, park and the Lincoln Tunnel toll.

You can also park in the Sam's Club/Walmart parking lot at the same complex (it's HUGE) and hop on the bus #320 bus there. Walmart is at the very top of this map. (Cut off in the one above.) And the bus stop is at the bottom of the Walmart Parking lot. A glass enclosure.

When we visit go to Manhattan to visit dh's family in midtown not far from Rockerfeller Center my friend from NJ usually drives and parks at Port Authority. When I meet her along with a friend from Queens we usually just meet in front of the NBC Studio store.

Do you know anyone who lives in Manhattan? The only time we ever drove in, we stopped at my friends building, she gave the doorman $20 and we handed him the keys and he found a parking spot in her neighborhood. Any other time, we park at the train station and take Metro North.

The one time the kids drove to NYC (last year) to see Jon Stewart ~ The Daily Show

I used SpotHero.com ... Location and Time of Day were factors.

I prepaid and there were no problems

Yeah you can often get better rates online.
Just make sure you use a reputable site. I never do but father in law does I think he uses Kinney site. Kinney is one of the bigger garage sites. Don't know if I am spelling it correctly.
