So, I would like to start paying my kids tuition with a credit card to earn the rewards from that massive monthly bill. However, the company they contract through for payment does not accept Visa (which is all I currently have! (of course!).

Can anyone suggest to me a good reward program Amex, MasterCard or Discover? I would prefer travel rewards...

I don't care much about an annual fee. For the amount I would be charging/earning monthly...will be worth it.

I looked at the CapitalOne Venture Card (I think it is called?)...40,000 if $3K or more in 3 months...no prob. However, SW and Sun Country are our airlines of choice. Can they transfer to those and can anyone give me first hand accounts of ease of use? Blackout dates, etc?

Thanks in advance!! (And, before you ask, I will not be carrying a balance...will be paid off in full each month). So, I am not worried about the interest rates, either.

Thanks!!

My new favorite catch-all is my Citi Double Cash Mastercard. I get 1% on purchases, and another 1% back when I pay the bill -- 2% back on purchases, regardless of category, is the best I've found.

I use others for groceries, gas and categories where better rewards are available, but for something like tuition, 2% is hard to beat.

I don't do travel rewards though, so someone may have a better suggestion for those.

Barclay Arrival + for travel
Fidelity Amex for cash
Citi Double for cash

All of these cards offer 2% cashback /travel points on all categories, so you'd get more bang for you buck.

None of the Universities our kids attended allowed credit cards for tuition payments. You might want to check into that first.

I think she already has. She mentioned they don't take Visa.

I ran all three of my kids tuition through credit cards at 5 different schools.

It's a fair point to make. I had been planning to pay tuition on one of my points or cash back cards to make it a tiny bit less painful, but the university my daughter attends is a state school, and yes, I can pay tutition with a credit card, but if I do, I need to pay the 'convenience fee' of 4% that's not happening. :sad2:

Another vote for the Barclay Arrival Plus card. You earn 2 points on all purchases. The current offer is 40,000 points ($400) for $3000 spend in 3 months.

At both my kid's schools, they charge 2.5% to use a credit card for payment. Be sure there isn't an added fee for paying by CC before you decide to get a new card.

We pay by e-check.

for general travel rewards I think it's hard to beat the barclays mastercard, since it rewards well, and you can use for general travel expenses.
