Don't say Bissell. I've had two and they both broke after only a few dozen uses.

LOL I came to say Bissell. I use mine almost every week (cat has stomach issues) and it has lasted 3 years so far. I admit I do more spot cleaning than I do a whole room at a time, but I couldn't live without it.

Wow you must have gotten a lemon. Mine works like a charm for three years and so has the spot bot too.

So no help, but at least I didn't say the b word:)

Anyone have the Shark Sonic Duo? It seems to get great reviews, and I love my Shark vacuum. Had it for years and it's still going strong.

It's just me living in a condo, no kids, no pets, and I'm pretty careful about keeping the carpets in good shape, so I don't need real heavy duty cleaning all the time. Just periodic freshening-up and stain removal.

The Duo sounds appealing because it's lightweight and has a small footprint, some of the 'B' -word cleaners are huge.

I have a Hoover SpinScrub (one of the many versions) and don't like it that much. I mean, it's probably great if you start using it when your carpet is brand new and clean every 4 months or so, but on dingy carpet I don't think it does a good enough job. I should probably have my carpets professionally cleaned and then every 3 months use the Hoover. We're hoping to get new carpet in a year or so though.

The "best" are the huge professional Rug Doctor's I think. I never had good luck with the rental ones though.

The Bissel Big Green Machine. It cleans really well! You can rent one at Lowes for $25 for 24 hours or $35 for 2 days and try it out before you buy one. There was a $10 off a one day rental on the Bissel website that may still be valid. If you decide to buy one, use a 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I don't own one, but a friend of mine has had one for a couple of years and swears by it. That's why I decided to try it out on a rental. Our carpet looks amazing!

Rug Doctor. I've had 3 Bissells that stunk. I invested in a Rug Doctor & love it.

My bissel home one never works as well as the rental ones. They just seem to work stronger and harder. In fact thanks for the reminder!

Invested in a used Nautavac professional type carpet cleaner.
These are heavy duty rental machines.
It is not the boxy bulky (inferior) kind like you see for rent at most places... it has the hose-wand like professional machines.
Wouldn't live without it! ;)

I have this Hoover SteamVac. It's easy to use and works great, even on pet stains. It's narrow so it takes a while to do a whole room but sucks up a lot of the water so the rug dries pretty quickly. At this price point, I got more than my money's worth.

I second your LOL.
Bissell is the best on the market.

alternatively, a slobbery mastiff and some leftover grub
