I am planning a Recession Pot luck Party and need some budget food ideas for a crowd. We will be providing cheap beer and cheap wine and the guests will each bring a food item. I know people will ask what to bring, so I want to give them some ideas. So far I have:

PB&J sandwiches

Macaroni and cheese

Pigs in blanket

Any other ideas?

What a great idea! Everyone I know is trying to cut back on expenses!

How about their family's favorite cheap dinner or dish? Include the recipe to be copied and later distributed to everyone who attended the party!

A big posterboard or something similar could be used for their favorite money saver in the home.

Another big board can be used for their favorite cheap/free activity in the area where you live.

How about a one time coupon exchange? Toy exchange for the kids? Tool swap for the guys? A list of sporting equipment each family is willing to share (fishing rods, tennis raquets, kayak, etc.)?

How about Baked Spaghetti? Or Bean Soup You could make a batch of Depression Era Homemade Bread to go with what the others bring.

That sounds like a fun party idea! Have a good time!

not meaning to hikjack--- but had to share ----

followed your link for depression era bread and found a reference to Great Depression Cooking with Clara videos on youtube---- just watched Ep:1 - Pasta with Peas---- and I am hooked--- I think I will sit the rest of the afternoon and watch this 91 year old ( reminds me of my grandma who died 2 years ago at age 91)--- talk about the depresion and share her recipes

Clara is fantastic! I'm so glad you shared this. It makes me wish that I had videos of my grandparents sharing and showing things. she is truly living history.

A few years ago I had a party when April 15 fell on a Sat.

We served PoorBoy sandwiches and used newspapers for a tablecloth with lots of half burned candles as the centerpiece.

What a fun idea! What about hot dogs and beans and bread and butter and jello??!!

What a great idea about doing toy/book/sporting equip/coupon shares!

This sounds fun! We attended a "White Trash" party last year, and part of the fun was everyone bringing their favorite dish to share. Don't forget Tuna Noodle Casserole, Tatertot Casserole, and Spam with Saltines for an appetizer.:rotfl:
