Hi there,

I am looking for reception music ideas.

We are having a plated lunch reception for 45-55 guests. We originally just wanted to have an IPOD set up & put our own music on it for background ambiance, but my mom really wants to have someone to announce the cake cutting and first dance and all that stuff.

My DF & I do NOT like to be center of attention. We are fine with having the first dance (though we would really prefer to do without it), but we are NOT interested in party games, chicken dance, etc...

My mom was looking into hiring DJ Chuck (from what I've read-he's supposed to be the best), but like I said we are mostly interested in just background music.....plus DF & I have sort of unconventional music tastes (definitely appropriate music but I'm not so sure that a regular DJ would have the types of music we enjoy & that is important to us).

We are also looking into hiring some sort of band, which might be more appealing because they could do alot of instrumentals which might be really nice for background lunch music....but I'm bervous about ending up with someone who is not good.

Again, we are not into making spectacles of ourselves and we really just want to blend into our reception and relax and enjoy without worrying about getting up and doing much with "all eyes on us"

What type of music option did you use and how did you like them?

Thanks!:goodvibes

We had an iPod set up because we also just wanted background music and we are very particular about the music we like. We ended up hiring a voice over artist (actually a local radio DJ because my husband works for a radio station) to record our intros, first dance, cake cutting, etc.. in mp3 format.

Our iPod dock had a remote, so we asked my niece to press play when Ken gave her the cute. We had set up the playlist to have the announcement of the bridal party/couple go right into the first dance announcement and then the first dance song. Then it rolled right into the music for the evening. When it was time for cake cutting, father/daughter, mother/son dances, we skipped to the appropriate track and the announcements were cued right before the songs.

Ooh - that's a really good idea!

We also did the iPod setup, but we skipped having an MC cuz it was just 34 of us at a casual brunch. However, the cousin whom we asked to cue up each playlist could have acted as MC if we wanted.

Could you ask someone in your party to do the honors? Not to ace DJ Chuck out of a gig, but if you have unconventional music tastes (we do too!) you're prolly gonna have to give him such an extensive Play and Do Not Play list that you may as well program the music yourself.

Regarding the band, one of the things Disney does really well is entertainment—I don't think you have to worry about them providing lousy musicians. :thumbsup2
