Sorry..I'm still trying to wrap my head around this....

For an escape wedding, do you still have your pick of disney locations to have a lunch reception? Are the food & beverage minimums the same as what's listed in the general wishes wedding package they send? Will the DFTW planner help you organize that..or are you on your own for that?

?
Thanks AGAIN.

Escape does not include a reception, but many brides book their own. It does not have to be at Disney, some people have done Swan & Dolphin resteraunts and many have done Downtown Disney locations.

If you are looking for a traditional type reception you might be better off with Wishes (music & dancing etc) I think with Escape its mostly just a lunch or dinner at a resteraunt or in a ballroom/

Yes. I get the part about it not being included. Originally, I was trying to book a wedding at the swan, but having difficulty finding out info about receptions at disney venues. Does an escape bride have the same options re: receptions as a wishes bride...with the added cost for the reception? Or, does an escape bride have the same reception options as a bride not having a DFTW? Or are both true?

Thanks.

I think the simple answer would be: both are true (but it depends where you want your dinner to be located).

Wishes weddings can use certain locations for dinner for it to count towards their minimums(for example, having dinner at Ohana's wouldn't count if I wanted a Wishes Wedding). As an Escape bride, I can call any restaurant and reserve either a private room or just make a reservation for X amount of people. Now some private rooms, like Bluezoo, Citrico also have minimums (someone had a great list of places like Shula's at the S/D). Also some places, require that large parties have either the first or last seating.

This book has a great section on the meals for both Wishes and Escape weddings, size and money requirements. It's been extremely helpful!

Your planner won't really help you plan the reception since its not included in the Escape package. You can either have a dinner at a restaurant at Disney or downtown Disney or even use locations that can be catered by Disney like Sago Cay Pointe. But the locations catered by Disney do have food & beverage minimums where some restaurants don't. Also you'd have to think about possibly having a bar service if you're looking at a Disney catered venue. Anyway, it takes some research but once you figure out the basics of what you want in a "reception", I'm sure there's a Disbride here who has done something similar!!

My wedding planner has been very helpful in planning my escape reception. I am having a lunch at the Napa Room from 1-4pm after my 12pm ceremony. She reserved the room, sent me menus and took my deposit for the reception.

I'm guessing when you make your own reservation at a restaurant for a dinner after your ceremony the planner really doesn't need to help but when you want to use a ballroom or private room in a restaurant they can help you with it.

Totally not true about your planner not helping you - my planner gave me suggestions, sent me photos, sent me menus, answered all of my questions, etc. And then the woman in charge of floral helped me pick out linens and centerpieces. You book everything directly through them, so of course they're going to be of assistance!

i don't whether this will help but I am also an Escape Bride. I am choosing to have a later ceremony (2:30pm) so that we can have a dinner seating at a restaurant. I have chosen the Yachtman's Steakhouse and will hopefully have one of the first seatings.

I looked at booking ballrooms etc but the minimum spend and the number of guests we were having just didn't make sense. I think having a menu for guests to choose from and the options of appetisers, desserts and an array of alcholic beverages will be a lot easier and less restrictive!

I will be happy to speak to the restaurant directly as I will know exactly whats happening and can make any special requests without going through a third party!

The main difference between a Wishes reception and an Escape one is that an Escape one is a maximum of 2 hours long.

Are you referring to the ceremony? Escape weddings really don't come with a reception (unless you consider the cake cutting a reception).

No, she means that if you add on a reception at a ballroom or private room in a restaurant you're limited to 2 hours. I was told 3 hours and my addendum says 1pm-4pm but it's widely known to be 2 hours.

Yes I meant if you add on a reception it can only be 2 hours.

I was actually never told there was a time limit to our dinner. (now I'm wondering if there was and I just wasn't told) :confused3 We did have to leave to get back to EPCOT for our DP though, so our dinner ended up being about 3 hours I think (maybe 2 1/2). It was scheduled for a certain time, but unless they have another party booked after you (if you have a private room, we had ours in the Wine Room at Jiko) I don't think you would be rushed out. You would be spending $ on alcohol etc...

I think not all Escape dinner receptions are the same, it depends on your location as to whether or not you have a strict time limit.

Thanks all for the info! I feel much more "sorted" now. I'm sticking with Escape and I will now wait until March to see if we get our date...and then book a reception when we can. WOOT!

whoops! I guess I misinterpreted the role of the planner since we are having our reception at a restaurant. It's good to know they will still help you out! :goodvibes I guess I shoulda figured that considering my planner was helpful when I was trying to figure out if I wanted a DP and the details therein!
