What kind of entertainment did you have at your reception and why did you choose it? Without a traditional band or DJ, what kept your guests entertained for the length of the reception?

DF and I are not sure what to do since we will only have around 30 guests. We've never been to a small wedding before so I'm just curious how people occupy the hours if there is no dance floor/dj/band.

we are getting married in january 2011, same size wedding. we are doing ipod music for our brunch reception, not dancing. we *may* be booking a musician we like to come play for an hour but thats it.

We had 47 guests and we had a DJ. But for other entertainment we had a Silhouette Artist, Mickey Mouse, and we watched Wishes from the Whitehall Patio(our reception was in the Whitehall Room). It was plenty to keep everyone busy. Don't forget with a sit down dinner(assuming that is what you are doing) eating takes up a good chunk of time too.

We had around 35 people and opted for an IPOD. We didn't have a lot of people dancing and kinda knew it would be like that. We ended up having our reception at Conservation Station which proved to be more entertaining than I would have thought. We also had Mickey and Minnie.

Thanks for the responses!

We are trying to figure out what entertainment fits into our budget and how things will work during the reception. Do you designate someone to be responsible for the ipod and pacing things like the first dance, cake cutting, etc?

Desnik, was the silhouette artist through disney or an outside vendor? That seems fun and a good way to keep people entertained!

we are planning on using our Ipod setup for minimal dancing, having goofy and a caricature artist . I also have activity bags for the kids / kids at heart with some coloring pages etc.:goodvibes

We had an Ipod (we set up playlists and a groomsman kept track of it) and a silhouette artist (Kathryn Flocken). She gave everyone a cutting and pasted a second one into a guest book for us. Everyone loved it!

She was an outside vender I got from tiggerificheidi. Her name is Kathryn Flocken. She has a website. I believe she works at Downtown Disney. She was so nice and professional and did an excellent job! Disney wanted to charge me $1500 for a silhouette artist and that was not including anything to put the silhouettes in! I paid less than half of that amount including cards to put each silhouette in! She also made a book for me with a copy of everyones silhouette and each person got to write a message to us under their picture. It is such a nice keepsake!

We had a jazz trio, the Dapper Dans, Minnie and Mickey and Kathryn Flocken.

We had 68 people, but it was a morning wedding with reception following. This kept people very entertained.

The Dapper Dans went table to table singing during the pre-reception while we were getting pics done and some into the reception, too.

Then, the jazz trio played. We did our first dance and father/daughter, mother/son dances, too. We danced a bit toward the end with them, but it was early and we had a lot of kids, so people were heading out for a nap before the DP!

Kathryn was set up the whole time to do people's silhouettes.

We didn't pay for the IPOD setup...we brought our own docking station and my dad set it up when he arrived. Worked perfectly for us. They wanted to charge us $1100 for the speaker set up and tech.

That is really good to hear! Did you use just a regular "bombbox"? or something nicer? I am sure DF would love to have an excuse to buy one...

i seriously am considering hauling the bose dock down there and not doing the "set up" BUT everything on all kinds of boards seem to suggest that its better or easier or something to use your computer for playing music? i don't know.... we "may" have a piano player, not sure if he is wanting to have any kind of mic system for his portion, but maybe if he has all he needs, we can just do the bose from home...

So how much does Kathryn Flocken charge for 4 hours? I tried emailing her, but it doesn't work. :confused3

Also, is the guest book and cards included, or are they extra?

Does Disney charge you anything to have outside vendor for like the silhouette artist. I am having a caricature artist. Right now I have a Disney employee booked but I feel like an outside vendor could be easier to work with and would make sure every family got one. Has anyone used an outside caricature artist?

We were at Narcoossee's, and we weren't charged anything. I would assume you wouldn't be able to bring someone into a park, though. Not sure.

The iPod setup fee varies by location, starting at $250.

We had 34 people at our wedding and just had an iPod. I made playlists for the various parts of the reception, and one of our guests hit the "next" button at the right times.

We didn't really feel like we needed to entertain our guests at a three-hour reception. They enjoyed just hanging out getting to know each other or catching up.

What is the maximum you would pay for and I-pod set up and why does it vary from location to location? Is it something to do with the size of the place?
