Here is my review of our first visit at Royal Pacific Resort - we loved it!

Royal Pacific Resort
We planned to stay one night at the RPR to utilize the express pass feature and also be within walking distance of the theme parks.

Pros
BEAUTIFUL! This room was about $54 more than the All Star Sports but it was heads and shoulders above that resort. The service was exceptional from check in to maid service. We checked in at 9:00 a.m. and were able to get a room right away on the 7th floor in tower 1. We had a nice view of the grounds and City Walk in the distance. The pool area is fantastic with a free water station of citrus infused water that was replaced often. Room service was fantastic. The room was spotless and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It had a table and chairs and a nice big chair with ottoman in the corner. The theming throughout the resort was really like being far away from a theme park! 5 minute walk to Islands of Adventure - 10 minutes to Universal. The walkway is designed so nicely with lots of areas of shade and very well manicured.

Cons
No quick service options. The only food options were restaurants or packaged snacks in the gift shop. Ice cream was an option but not other foods such as hamburgers, sandwiches, etc. I believe carry out is possible from one of their restaurants (Jake's) but we didn't try that. The AC is set up to be more environmentally friendly but despite setting the thermostat as low as we could the room never got below 72 degrees. (We like our room cold at night). Had we stayed longer I would have called to find out if there was anything that could be done to override the system.

Here you can see my review of RPR along with a comparison of sorts with Disney resorts we stayed at on this trip as well.

Glad you had a good time.
We also like the room cooler at night, , while you can adjust the thermostat to the temperature you want, if there is no movement in the room for a period of time , it will reset to 72, so when you are sleeping it will reset as there is no movement in the room. Well this is what they told us.

One trip we had a clogged air filter that made the ac not get cold enough.

One of the first trips we stay the head maintenance man said that he could program the ac to a set temp in the control room for our trip. I told him we like it cold an it kept turning off in the middle of the night. What ever he did, the rest of the stay it worked.

Does anyone know how to override that? 72 is not cool enough for us!!

We stay at HRH, but I am assuming that the ACs work the same way. When I called to complain about the air (before knowing about the way their system worked and that is was functioning as intended) they sent a maintenance person who manually overrode the system so it worked as you would expect.

Next time I am requesting that they do so upon check-in...I am SO with you on the cold sleeping environment! :thumbsup2

what i do is hold the down button until it reaches 68.
when i hear it click, i release the button which overrides the system.

one year i used duct tape to hold the button down.

it would be best to use the phone and call star services to have maintenance come to your room to over ride the system.

This is good to know, thanks. Will come in handy for Wednesday.

Blue, if my technique does not work, do call star services on the phone in your room. i was last there oct '10.

don't try to sleep in an over heated room.
i have called star service at 3 in the morning before.
they do respond.

i hope you and the family have a great vacation!
not many more 'wake ups' before you hit the road.

I'm glad we aren't alone with the cold room :) Thanks for the info about the AC we'll definitely be utilizing that on our next trip!

Thanks, the last time they fixed it was right around midnight when I called them. We returned around 11:30 pm from Citywalk and our room door was not locked, it pushed straight open. I was not worried because we were the last door at the end of the hall. The guy came and replaced the lock because it was defective. While he was there I asked him about the AC. He said when he gets down to the control room he would fix it for us with an override. He asked us how many days we were staying. After he left about 10 minutes later he called the room and said we were all set. :goodvibes

I will first try your trick. Out of all of our stays we only had them override it once and thats by me asking bout the ac that time. Every other time since, except the clogged filter, we have not had a problem with the ac. We keep it at 65, the lowest it goes.:thumbsup2

WDW veteran, UO newbie here (but stayinng at RPR one month from today). Here are various instructions which have worked for us at WDW DVC resorts plus other hotels. Maybe one these will work for you:

Press the power button and the down arrow button simultaneously. The letters "bp" should appear in the display indicating you are in "bypass" mode. Then you can use the up/down buttons to set the temperature. You may have to do this every 24 hours or every few days.

The sensor by-pass for our kind of thermostat was simple--I just pressed the "off" button and both the temperature "up/down" buttons all at the same time. "BP' appears in the thermostat, and then it operates as most other themostats in most other hotels in the US

And yet another:

The thermostat has two buttons on the left (ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN) and two buttons on the right (UP and DOWN)

1) Press the ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN buttons together. The digital display will change to 'CA'.

2) Press the ON/OFF and DOWN button together. The digital display will change to 'OR" (or something similar).

You have just deactivated the motion sensor. This will last for three days at which point you will have to repeat the process.

And one more --

TO CHANGE AC THERMOSTAT SETTINGS THE THERMOSTAT HAS TO BE PUT INTO "SERVICE MODE" IT IS SIMPLE TO DO BY PRESSING THE FOLLOWING KEYS ON THE FRONT OF THE THERMOSTAT.

EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE:

1. PRESS (AND KEEP PRESSED) THE F/C KEY

2. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE DISPLAY KEY.

4. RELEASE THE F/C KEY.

UPON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THIS SEQUENCE, THE LCD WILL DISPLAY PAR (PARAMETER) AND THE PARAMETER NUMBER.

1. PRESS THE UP ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL # 6 APPEARS. (NEW MODELS # 24)

2. PRESS THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. THE CURRENT LOW TEMPERATURE IS DISPLAYED.

4. PRESS THE DOWN ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL THE DESIRED ROOM
TEMPERATURE APPEARS

5. PRESS THE F/C KEY

This is a picture of what Universal's hotels have.

i was able to get the "bp" at the disney resort last year but i couldn't get it to "bp" at rph last october.

i had to do the hold, lower temp guage and hear the click.
pete explained the steps well.
i just keep holding the buttons on the left, then get two letters and i'm set.

i stay in a king suite and there are two thermostats.
one in each room.

This time the ac would not get colder than 71. After a few hours I pulled the ac panel in the closet and guess what, filter was clogged. I called star service and they sent someone right away and changed it. After that put the unit on by pass and it never left 65-67 the whole trip.:goodvibes Everyday I would press the bypass just to make sure, the service guy told me the same thing.:thumbsup2

Make sure the unit is on, then press the power and colder button at the same time. If done right it will display bp and still be running. A couple of times it shut off when pressing the buttons so I just turned it on again a repeated steps to make sure. I did this every morning before we left to the parks. By doing this the ac will run all the time and keep it at the desired temp. So when it reaches it's temp within 2 degrees it won't blow as cold if you know what I mean.

Thanks!! I hope you had a wonderful trip!!

I did a search to find out about the AC. (we are here at the moment) At night the air blows cold and during day it was always warm when we come back to the room. I feel better knowing why now. :goodvibes
