Recently potty-trained child and accidents during naps?

We are leaving for WDW in 1 week (yeeaaaaah!). This will be our first big trip since DS (just turned 4) has been fully potty-trained. He was late to potty train (about 3 1/2), and although he rarely has accidents during the day, we still put him in pullups at night because he sometimes wakes up wet. Even though he hardly ever naps during the day anymore, he may nap for a little while at the parks since there will be so much activity. We will have our double stroller with us, so he and DS (2) will be able to nap in it.

My concern is...what do I do about possible accidents while he is napping? Since we will be driving 12 hours to WDW (and much of it before dawn), I plan to put him in a pullup for the drive since he will be sleeping for the first few hours. But I don't want to do this during the day at the parks. And since I won't know when he might want to nap, that would be hard to plan for anyway. I'm concerned about him going out cold for a long, hard nap and having an accident. He would be really upset to wake up wet at Disney World, and then the stroller padding would be wet and stained. Of course I will have changes of clothes with me, but should I plan on bringing something to put underneath him in the stroller? Plastic bags?

Has anyone else had this concern? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paula

We did WDW with my little girl shortly after she was potty trained. I had her in pull ups the whole time we were out of the hotel room. I first bought the brand that had the Disney Characters (Pampers? Maybe?) and then I explained to her that she was still a big girl, and I wanted her to still use the potty when we were out, but I wanted her to have lots of fun and not worry about having an "oopsie." She didn't have a single accident the whole time, and treated the pull ups just like her underwear. On a side note, bring lots and lots of hand sanitizer, because they will find all sorts of things in the park bathrooms to touch after hand washing.

I would bring a towel or something to put under him in the stroller just to protect it.

My ds is 3 and wears a pull-up at night, but during the day he stays dry during naps (when he takes one). If your ds stays dry during the day, I would think he'd stay dry in Disney. Just make sure you take frequent stops at the bathroom when you think he may pass out soon.

If he falls asleep, could you manage to get a pull-up on him and just keep his underwear over it? That way if he does wet, he won't feel bad because he didn't wet his clothes.

My ds potty trained about 3 weeks before we left for our trip last year. I was afraid things wouldn't go so well, but they did, he was fine.

Have a great trip!

Nancy

You could also use a "lap pad" in the seat of the stroller; that should be big enough just under his tush. I always stuck these in the seat of DD's carseat when I was concerned about accidents. They have a flannel surface, so they are not sticky to sit on.

If you don't already own these, they usually come in packs of 3. They run about $6/pkg. in the baby dept. of places like Wal-Mart and Target.

Gerber puts out a 3 pack of cotton undies that have a layer of aborbancy down the middle. This might help him feel like he has big kid undies while you get some protection. Plus you can wash/rinse and re-use later in your trip or at home for long outings. (These aren't water proof, so you will need to change pretty quickly.)
