I had such a fantastic time ! This was my annual SOLO vacation, and I spent 3 nights at The Swan on gov't discount, and then 3 nights at a BWV one bedroom on rented points.

Here I was alone when I entered my one bedroom room. Out loud, all I kept saying was "Wow". I had to call my DH right away on my cell phone to tell him about my room. That jacuzzi tub was wonderful on a very tired body after a day in the parks.
It was wonderfully quiet, I didn't hear a peep out of any of my neighbors. I had room 2104. I did two loads of laundry while I was there; it made for an easier time when I got home.

Any questions ??

And now that you have experienced the wonder that is a DVC one bedroom, are you ready to buy in?:p

Who knew a washer in the room could be a good thing. ;) Glad to hear you enjoyed the "DVC experience"....especially how nice that tub can feel after a long day at Disney.

For me.......buying into it would not be a smart thing to do unless I won the lottery. I am a relatively low income person, and I am currently still making car payments. If I took the 10 year loan, it would not be paid off until I am 61 years of age. I am currently 50 ( and a half ) years old. I do not have any children at all, therefore no grandchildren. My DH is 24 years older than I am.
I don't have any sisters to travel with. Basically, I have no one to travel with, but, traveling solo is also a delight.

It is just too uncertain about how long I will be able to take an annual solo WDW vacation, so I prefer to just plan it year by year.

Does everyone understand why I won't be a buyer ?

However......I do really hope to go to WDW every year for the rest of my life.

Claudia - just a FYI. I am single, over 50 (a bit older than you), no sisters, (just brothers who don't understand Disney) and own at BWV and WVL.

What I enjoy is that I can go down and not have to worry about how much my room will cost. I have a variety of hotels to choose from - all deluxe. I buy an annual pass so I don't have to worry about tickets. All I plan for is my airfare and food.

I have taken solo trips and I've also travelled with friends (they look forward to leaving their husbands for a few days). I just had a knee go out but I'm not worried. I'll get around WDW somehow even if it's on a scooter.

I can understand the financial part of it but if that ever changes, you might want to look into DVC. It's a good hedge against inflation.

Happy Holidays!

Sounds great Claudia; glad you had a good time. I understand perfectly why you would not be a DVC owner. ::yes:: For those of us who are owners, folks like you are out there renting on occasion, allowing us to liquidate surplus points if we should (heaven forbid) not be able to use all of our points before they expire.

You say you were in Rm 2104. It seems that our pal Sandy (aka InstImpres) does not yet have a report on that one; could you tell us more about it? You know, important stuff like Std or Pref view, Smoking or Non, how far from elevator and most importantly how/ what was your view?

My DH got a good belly laugh.
Only one day after I got home from vacation, I was showing him the calendar for Dec. 04. to choose my dates for next year !

I remember when I got the official tour of BWV in December '02.
I nearly cried when I saw the room, because I figured it was something that I just could not have.

BUT.....then I found the
rent / trade board.....

Claudia,

So glad you had a great time. While I understand that circumstances make DVC not an option for you right now ...

... you certainly do seem to have the long-term planning perspective that a DVC owner needs! :p

DrTomorrow,
Absolutely ! WDW and my vacations are what helps me get through any bad stuff during the year. I don't want to vacation anywhere else.

One might think that at 50 years old, and no children, I would not be interested in Disney World.
That's not me ! LOL !

I know DIS people understand.
My resort and my room are also a big part of the overall Disney Experience. I hope to go at least one week a year for the rest of my life.
