I wanted to post (I'm a newbie to the boards) and let you know about our recent trip and my husband's Meniere's Disease. He has vertigo, balance probs, low sodium diet, and to add to the madness, he has SUPER terrible hyperacusis. I can't even put dishes away with him in the room. With that said, we still went to DL.
Here are a few things that worked for us:
1. LOTS of sweating. He can't use water pills. They make it worse for him, but sweating helps a ton.
2. Thank GOODNESS for Starbucks. DL spots say they can cater to a low sodium diet, but their idea of low sodium and a meniere's low sodium diet are very different. Thankfully, the Market in DL and regular Sbucks in Downtown disney serve Bistro Boxes and Breakfast sammy's that are all low sodium. For most people, these work beautifully. For us it's a bit tricky. The only thing that truly helps is for us to eat clean. That brings me to #3.
3. Bring your own snacks, or have a grocery store deliver some of your faves. Added bonus- this saves you money!
4. Bring ear plugs if you're sensitive to sound. He did and had a blast. Noise didn't bother him at all.
5. Take your favorite motion sickness meds just in case.
Honestly, he has it pretty bad because no usual courses of treatment have helped him at all. I went on here looking for some hope because I wanted him to have fun and not be worried the whole time. I was glad others shared their experiences and I wanted to return the favor.
One last thing- if you can go for a few days, spread the trip out with lots of time for breaks and relaxing. would love to hear if anyone else has traveled with this and how it went for you.
