We'll be at DW Apr 29-May 6. And again June of 2014. I know MOST people who get the TIW card, the expiration is for the end of the following month the following year. (buy in May 2013, expiration June 30 2014) However, it also seems that some are only getting the expiration for one year, to the month. (Buy in May 2013, expire May 2014)

Can anyone provide some recent anecdotal evidence to what's been the norm? Anyone by one in March or April 2013 and have a April/May 2014 expiration? Just trying to determine if I should wait until May 1st to buy. Thanks so much!

A year and a month was the date when Disney mailed the card. Their processing time took a week or so plus the mail delay so Disney just made it a year and a month.

Maybe they use different dates now depending how you received the card?

Bought mine this past Monday at Guest Relations on April 1, 2013 and my expiration date is April 1, 2014. My previous card was good for 13 months.

It's supposed to be 13 months, but we bought ours in March and they expired it in exactly 12 months. I complained, via email, to WDW Satisfaction Services, and they said it's supposed to be 13-months and they will fix the expiration date on our next trip (which is June). If you don't get the 13-months, ask for a Manager.

Back when the only way to get the card was by mail, there used to be a formula for calculating the expiration date. It was something like this: if you purchased before the 8th day of the month, your expiration date was at the end of that month plus one year. If you purchased on or after the 8th of the month, your expiration date was at the end of the following month plus one year.

Ex: purchase April 1, 2013, expiration date would be April 30, 2014. Purchase April 8, 2013, expiration date would be May 31, 2014.

That was back when the only way to get the card was by mail and it could take up to 3 weeks to get it to you. The formula ensured that you got 12 full months, even if it took the full 3 weeks to get the card in the mail.

Now that you can get them immediately, I don't know what the cutoff date is for bumping the expiration date to the following month. I don't think we're guaranteed 13 months but you should get at least 12 full months and could probably argue for an expiration date at the end of that 12th month.

Did they do away with the AP discount for getting them? I know last year we were able to get it for $75 still with our AP discount....

No. They just raised the price to $100. Now it's the same price ($100) for annual passholders and DVC members. Florida Residents pay $125.

That's a bummer they did that. :( Oh well. We don't need another one until next year...just hope they don't raise the prices again before we go!!

Me, too. If they go up much more, we'll be among those relying on the DVC dining discounts and eating more often in the room or off site.

Us, too. For only 2 persons who don't eat like we used too, I'm not certain we would benefit from this any longer.

We had TIW card once...bought it at Disney 12/20/2011 and it expired 1/31/2013.

Just renewed on 3/31/13 and it expires 4/30/14 and we paid $100.

Side note, our previous card expired 4/30/13 but we forgot it at home :(. Realized it on our first day 3/31/13. Went to guest relations and asked of we could get a replacement or temporary card for this trip. Nope... $50 fee to do that. Really?! $50 to print a plastic card? So our choices were do without or renew now for $100. I love Disney, like a crazy ridiculous obsession kinda love, but come on. The CM pulled my account up in 2 seconds, and could see my expiration date, so what's the problem?

You can thank all the "cheaters" out there. Disney used to replace the discount cards without charge, but people took advantage of this to get additional cards for friends and family. Now all additional cards for the same account, no matter why you want one, cost $50.

Just to reiterate, our old card was good for 13 months. We purchased a new one on April 1, 2013, and the expiration date is April 1, 2014. That was this week at guest relations at Magic Kingdom. If others are still getting 13 months I want to get our extra month added :-)
