There was a recent thread on here that had a yummy sounding recipe for a dump cake. Given the lack of ability of the search function here, I can't seem to find it.

Doea anyone have the recipe? I remember that it had diet sprite in it but that is about all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

In a 13 by 9 pan, dump these ingredients in order:

1 large can crushed pineapple
1 large can cherry pie filling
1 cup chopped pecans
1 yellow cake mix
2 sticks butter/margarine, melted.

Bake at 350 for an hour.

Serve with ice cream.

above recipe copied from dump cake thread. Hope it helps you.:)

My version is slightly different. I use two cans of pie filling...put the filling in a 9x13 pan and then sprinkle/pour a box of dry cake mix over the filling. Then cut up one stick of butter in small pieces and place all over the dry cake mix. Sometimes I will also sprinkle some nuts in there as well. My favorite combo is cherry pie filling with yellow cake mix, I have also done apple pie filling with caramel cake mix. Another I have heard of but have not tried is cherry with chocolate. Use whatever combo sounds good...toms of possibilities! I bake at 350º for about 30-45 minutes...basically until the top is lightly browned. This is so easy and a great favorite at potlucks and as a snack for my moms group.

The recipie I have for it is similar to Nolcrest, except, I use a butter yellow cake mix (Duncan Hines, usually, but whatever's cheaper) than just a regular yellow cake mix. And I make it separately. After the cake is cooled, I mix all the ingredients with cool whip, kind of like a trifle. But it all depends on taste. Ice cream would probably be good too.

I've never seen one with diet sprite, but it sounds good. Can't wait to see a recipie for it.

Low-Cal Dump Cake

1 box yellow cake mix (can be low calorie type; Weight Watchers, etc.)
1 can Diet Sprite
1 can Bing cherries
1 can crushed pineapple

Pour cherries and pineapple into bottom of sheet cake pan.
Sprinkle dry cake mix over fruit
Pour can of Sprite evenly over dry cake mix
Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes
(can also be make non-diet by using regular yellow cake mix and substituting margarine pats instead of Sprite)

Blueberry and pineappleis good, too!

I'm glad this has posted, now I have MORE options for easy and yummy desserts!

Sorry to hijack, but this sounds good and easy. Do you not mix the ingredients either?

Another good option is using crushed pineapple and shredded coconut, with either a coconut or white cake mix.

I'm excited to try substituting the diet sprite for the butter. I'm guessing the cakes will taste just as good, but with a LOT less calories!

I make a cobbler variation of this recipe using my dutch oven. Family loves this treat when we go camping.

1 large can of sliced peaches
1 box of yellow cake mix
Top with few pats of butter (optional)

Combine ingredients in dutch oven (line dutch oven with foil for easier cleanup).
Mix slightly (optional)
Top with little bit of butter (optional)
Bake until done (usually about 30/40 minutes at 350)

I don't use nuts, and only 1 stick of butter sliced and laid on top of dry cake mix.

See, I just lowered the calories and still used butter!! :rotfl2:

This is one of my favorite cakes!! Hey, can someone bring me a piece? This thread is making me hungry!!! popcorn::

The one I use is for Thanksgiving....it uses pumpkin instead of cherries and pineapples and is my favorite! I like it better than Paula Deen's Pumpkin Gooey Bars, and those are awesome!

Thanks again for all the recipes and suggestions.

Should you keep this cake refrigerated? And do you think it will be ok if I make it tomorrow but we don't eat it until Saturday?

I do not refrigerate mine. I usually will only make it the night before for a morning event or the afternoon before an evening event that I will be bringing it too. I find that it is yummier with the cake mix and butter formed 'crust' is crispier. After a while the crust seems to absorb some of the liquid from the pie filling and get a little soft. Still tastes good but I like the crispier texture.

I agree. I like my top layer crunchy, too. I wouldn't make it any earlier than the very night before, or the morning of. And don't cover (for storage or transportation) it until it's cooled. If you cover it when it's still warm it will trap in more moisture and make the cake layer get soft that much faster.

At a recent carry-in:
fruit cocktail and a chocolate cake mix,
chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling.
