Hi all!

As promised, took a good number of pictures during our 1 night stay at Vero before the 10 day cruise.

Am very happy to report the resort itself is in good repair, the beach may be even better than it was before the hurricanes infact.

Sorry to say that Vero Beach the town is still looking very beaten and battered in places, really feel for everyone living there.

I did ask about any info on the Member meeting, they really didn't have anything, you had to have attended it.

Now for pics.
First, the main building itself, beach side. The only indicator there was damage to the buildings is the fact that the replacement items havn't weathered in yet, the brighter color really shows, especially on the roofing, which the new parts are a much darker green. .

The walkway to the beach has been shortened, a lot. Where there used to be that bridge past the green hut and the walkway/overlook of the beach, that's all gone. At the barrier, you now turn right and take another set of steps that I presume was there to connect the pool area to the beach.

The view from the beach side. It seemed very wide considering what I've heard. They made a good effort to fix it.

The current stairs to the beach. These look like they have always been here and connect most directly from the pool area. They also look like they might be a bit.. submeged?

A view of the villas. This might be the villa that was closed due to damage. Considering the size of the roof section that was replaced that wouldn't be surprising.

All in all, I have to say that the place is great, and we'd very much like to stay there again for a longer than 1 night stay.

Thanks very much for the pics, Mark - hope you and Mary had a great time on your cruise. (I'm sure you did!!)

I'm anxious to get back to Vero...

Thanks for the pictures. We'll be down there for spring break which is the last week in March.

Wow the beach looks MUCH wider. I wonder if they will keep it that way.

Thanks so much for the pics. Very interesting.

We have never been to Vero, so we really dont know much about the extent of damage. But thanks for the pics. I always wanted to see a close up picture of Vero and the beach.

I see the stairs but I need to ask you...is there a handicap ramp to the beach? Thanks for the great pictures.

Thanks for the great pics. We'll be down there on the 14th.
I'm glad to see that the Green Cabin Room is right where I left it! LOL! :drinking1:
I'm sure that DW will be happy to give the Vero economy a jump start!

Many thanks for the pictures. We are headed to our home, VB, for the July 4th holiday. If memory serves me correctly, I don't think there was previously a walkway to the beach, where it is now shown. The walkway was where the Green Cabin is located. The barrier now shown by the Green Cabin was open and led to the walkway to the beach, which also allowed for handicapped access.

It looks as if the beach has been leveled a lot. We're going to spend Memorial weekend at VB, I can't wait to be there.

Thanks for the pictures and explanations.

I don't remember seeing one, but wasn't looking for one either. Mind you the resort was probably at its lowest occupancy, and as you can see from the pictures, there wasn't exactly anything happening on the beach.

I'd never been there before, so I was only going by what pictures I've seen of the resort condition before the hurricanes. I thought I mentioned the fact the original walkway/overlook is completely gone, cutoff at that barrier. This other stair did look like it had been there before now. It leads directly to the pool area gate, maybe a castmember access? The detour from the original public walkway appeared to be much newer than the actual stair pictured and area behind it connecting the beach to the resort.

Well, MarkRG wasn't looking for a handicap ramp, but I will be doing so next week. My 7 yr old DS is wheelchair bound and loves to ride in those fat-tire beach wheelchairs they have in the green hut there. It may be that I need to carry him down to the beach, which would be a bummer. :guilty: I will also check on plans to reinstate wheeled access to the beach if it has not been restored already and post it here and on the DISabilities board.

We'll be there for three days starting on the 13th, so very near future :Pinkbounc

Thx for the pix MarkRG!

You're welcome.

The best I can tell you is the walking path past the pool area has direct access to the beach stair I have pictured above, you don't need to go up to the old access to go down to the beach. Probably will have to carry him down those to the beach chairs.

The only promising thing I can say is that barrier at the end of the old beach access does look temporary.

Im going to take a few days off of the VWL stay and go to Vero beach for 3 nights.I live by the beach so we never go to the beach on vacation but this year I think we need a change.

I believe that "extra staircase" from the picture used to be the staircase to the campfire pit?!? I had read somewhere that the fire pit was badly damaged...so now it looks like that staircase goes directly to the beach.

The beach sure does look wider...but I think that's because there's no massive lookout/staircase anymore...

Thank you for posting!!! We visit during the first week in April. I can't wait!

Well, the campfire area is now on the far north end of the property. Remember hearing it had been moved. That would make sense if the original area had been buried in the sand.

Looking at the pics it appears that the hurricane removed about 20ft of ground cover and turned it into beach. Previously from the beach you could not see the lower floor of the beach houses due to the ground cover (sea oats, plants, trees etc.) between the beach and the resort. The ground cover was also wrapped around the hut that is now on the beach.

Looking forward to seeing the new beach house view.
Doug
