Recent MCO car rental experience

I am going for one night in September, 9:00 am Saturday the 19th arrival, leaving 4pm Sunday. I booked through a third party to use up some AA miles which necessitated booking a rental car along with hotel. I know that the rental car counters were a nightmare this summer. Does anyone have recent experience to suggest they are better? It is through Budget, and I can’t add the counter skip option so either I will wait at the counter or grab Uber/Lyft instead. Btw if I skip out on the rental car it won’t hurt my hotel reservation but will just cost extra for the Uber/Lyft… although I will save $30 by not having a car at dolphin…

Our last trip we rented through Thrifty and when we got there it was at least a 3 hour wait to get to the counter. I have never seen it that bad. I will always stick with Alamo, even with 3rd party booking, if you put your reservation in the Alamo site it will let you skip the counter and go right to the car. Worst case they have a few kiosk's you can use and not wait for the counter.

On July 1st, got there around noon and no wait at National counter. I was able to confirm I could just to to Emerald Aisle even though it said report to the counter and had plenty of cars, SUVs, vans to choose from
