Recent experiences with TOTWL access without paid event

Hi all. Has anyone gone to TOTWL for a drink and fireworks recently without having a reservation for a paid event. We were hoping to go this weekend and I was wondering with the paid even if it is still likely to get in for viewing and a drink (we are great standing outside and do not need a table) even on a FCFS basis or if it is usually full by 30-45 min before the start?
