Recent Crowds

Remember, however, you're not out walking around all day in the 106 degree Texas heat (+ the Florida humidity).

I have been in August a few times, going again 2 weeks from today. The heat does not bother me that bad at all. For one thing, I don't have AC at home. So all last week I dealt with 95 degree weather and 70% humidity up here in MA without AC, In Florida, everything indoors is airconditioned.

What I do is I wear sleeveless shirts almost every day. My hair is short anyway, but if it is was longer I would wear it off my neck. Water, water, water. Rest when you feel tired.

Kids will get cranky and tired in any weather, but especially in the heat...don't push them on, rest when they are tired!

Pace yourself. I don't know what else to say. I mean, yeah it's hot, but its hot everywhere. If you know to expect it then you will be fine.

Yes, and drink even if you don't feel thirsty. My DH is a real stickler for staying hydrated, and, I must admit, it makes a HUGE difference!! :thumbsup2

I would love to know this too. Since I'll be at the concrete jungle resort of All Star Sports maybe I won't need to worry if this was a resort related problem.

I've been watching the forecasts on weather.com and right now it says that the 12 and 13 will only have highs of 86! Which means it'll be raining a lot more than normal. Good thing I bought the sturdier ponchos!

I want to hear more reports!

We stayed at WL - and I think we got the majority of the bites when we were waiting for the Water Parade at 9:30pm. But we also got some touring AK -- so hopefully it's just the foliage and water. Previously, we've stayed at CBR, ASMu, CSR, AKL without bites.

BTW - the rain is a godsend. it was much nicer after the rain. Texas now is much hotter than what we experience at WDW.

Thanks! That's good to know.

Looking at the forecast now, we've got 87, 86 and 88! Anything under 90 is amazing to me! :thumbsup2 I think the rain is nice too. I've seen a lot of people say that it doesn't do anything, but I think getting wet helps!

We need some new just back reports!!!!

Thanks for the info! Good to know I won't have to bathe in bug stuff for going to the parks!! :thumbsup2

We just got back last night. We arrived last Thursday morning. The crowds were not that bad, we were in Magic Kingdom on Thursday evening. Stayed until after the 9 o'clock parade. Friday we were at Animal Kingdom and DHS. Again, crowds were okay. DHS was a little busy, but I have seen it much worse. Toy STory mania of course was the busiest, it was out of Fast Passes and the stand-by time was 80 minutes. Saturday we went to Epcot. It was crowded, but not that bad. Sunday we went back to DHS. This day seemed more crowded, although, I have seen it worse. The wait time in the afternoon for RRRC was 70 minutes. TOT was ranging between 20 and 40 minutes. We fastpassed TSM, as that is impossible otherwise. Monday morning we headed into the Magic Kingdom at about 10:30. Complete chaos. It was as crowded to me, as I am used to seeing it at holidays. It was packed. Maybe it is the discount code that was offered for early August. A CM was telling someone at the Poly on Sunday evening that they were completely booked. :)

I don't know about recently, but last October we got a lot of mosquito bites in MK in Toontown especially. I plan to wear bug spray this year, it was really bad!

The WL Beach waiting for the EWP is the only place I have been bit at WDW

I was really hoping for a few more reports of the beginning of August. Where is everyone?! :teeth:

Maybe the parks are empty :rotfl: Since I will be checking in next friday..I hope so ;)

That's what I was thinking too! (either that or everyone is still there! :() We're leaving on Tuesday!

Well...I just got back last night and the crowds were lower than I expected last week but on Monday were back to where I thought they would be for the summer. DHS was more crowded than I remember it being in the past.

The tour groups are dying down because school has started back in Brazil. We only came across one group that was rude and obnoxious chanting down Hollywood Blvd. - encouraged to do so by their adult leaders! Overall most of the groups were very respectful.

Oops, I forgot to report we were at AK on Sunday. Got there about 9:30, straight to KS and it was a 30 minute wait, but I think there was delay right before we got in line. From there went to Lion King and it eventually almost filled up. Ate lunch and then headed over to KRR where there was an 80 minute wait, got FP's for 2:45 and went and waited for Flights of Wonder. By 2:45, the wait for KRR was down to 70 minutes, we had a little wait in the FP line, but by the time we got off the ride, that area seemed really packed, but nothing like when we were there in June. The crowds do seem to be thinning out.

DS and I are headed to TL this morning, I'll let you know what it is like when we get back.

Thanks for the reports!

I wonder if the fact that value season started on 8/3 increased the crowds over last week.

We were at Magic Kingdom this past Saturday and EPCOT Sunday. I was surprised that the crowds weren't as big as expected. I have seen far more people in summer. We got a fast pass to Soaring, but the stand-by line was 95 minutes. We didn't see any tour groups from Brazil, but we did see several tour groups from the US who have adopted the habit of chanting as loudly as possible. At times it was very difficult to walk because of speeding ECVs and wheelchairs. The number of strollers with older children dragging their legs on the ground and sticking them out in front of people also was annoying. The most obnoxious encounter I had was when a dad told his dd, who was at least 9-10 years old) that it was alright to be rude at Disney World and just to push people out of her way so that she could see the pirates. The kid pushed me aside and continued knocking into people, including small children, until she made her way to the very front.

From all the research I have done it looks like 08/09-24 should be the quieter part of August..it is after most schools (in the south) go back in session, tour groups dwindle and before the free dining promotion starts (8/24). ;)

Hubby went to Chicago and took my AP with him accidentally (BAD BAD hubby!) so I've been out of the parks for a few days, but he'll be home tomorrow sp we're going to venture to MK this weekend or next week. I'm hoping the crowds there are as low as they've been in the mornings at the other parks...it's like paradise not to have the Brazillians running around.

that is so sad to hear about what the father said to the little girl

but I have to admit, sometimes we have to sink to the lowest common denominator so that our kids can get a fair break.... :headache:

not that I have done it yet, but I know what that feels like when the mama bear comes out in me ;)

its like manners are just going the way of the dodo in this country....

not sure why.... maybe people are working harder earning less and generally dissatisfied with their lives... :confused3

It is good to hear that the crowds are manageable... I am still super nervous I have NEVER used Fast pass before... never waited more than 30 mintues in line... not sure how to handle the 80 min wait :scared1:

I am counting on touring plans to save us!:thumbsup2

Might be too late now, but if you go to guest relations with your ID and the numbers from the back of your AP they'll be able to print you a new one so you can get back in before he gets back.

Brett

Yep, that's what hubby instructed me to do...even emailed me the numbers. I was just too darned lazy to do it, so instead I've just stewed all week (although it's really a good thing because it forces me to focus more time on work).
