Recent Crowds

We are going 6/18-23. I will post about crowds while there or when we get back.

Just counting myself in on the Thread :thumbsup2

We are travelling to WDW shortly and am interested to see how the crowds hopefully decrease !!

We were there last week. It was crowded, but manageable. Try to get to the parks when they open. It's hard to get up early-I know-but it's well worth it. We were able to ride most of the more popular rides early with very little waits. We encountered less than 20 minute waits for Space Mountain, Everest, Tower of Terror, Soaring etc. By early afternoon, the parks were pretty crowded & it was way too hot, so it was a great time for a break.
Have a great time!!!

Hi all. We are here now. Get to the parks early, use fast passes, take a mid-day break if possible and return to the same park around 7:pm! We usually visit at Thanksgiving week so that's our only comparison, but to us this week is busier. Got to rope drop at MK on Monday and there were definitely more people there at 8:30 than any of us remembered. We left around 2:00, came back at 7:00 recharged and ready to go. Yesterday we did Studios, got there again for rope drop, family rode RNR and ToT while I 'ran' to TSM for fastpasses. Wait times were 45-60 minutes or more. We even got fastpasses for Lights, Motor, Action and the Indy show which we'd never had to do before. The heat was crazy hot and for me at least seemed even worse with the humidity after the first bunch of showers. It did cool off later in the day, maybe around 7:00 after the full-out rain. So that's our experience so far this week which may be totally normal for a June visit as far as weather and crowds. We are having a fabulous time (TSM was so much fun!!) but definitely working more with the fastpasses this trip.

we're here now & I can't believe how manageable the crowds were at MK last night. we arrived in orlando yesterday at 1 and hit MK from 7 to 10:30 last night. in those 3.5 hrs we rode: buzz lightyear; transit authority; haunted mansion; snowhite; space mtn;splash mtn, big thunder mtn;small world; and saw the fireworks . the only longish wait was the kids had on space mtn - 30 mins & I did not go on it) downpour around 7:30 - don't forget your rain ponchos! off to typhoon lagon today.

Don't want this to get lost.

I really think it should be a sticky, but there seem to be too many of them on this board already.

Hope everyone is having a great time!

We just got back a few days ago. I think my perception of crowds is a bit different from many others who have recently posted!! :confused3

Our only comparison for crowd levels to this trip was June 3 years ago. When we went in 2005, we were there from the 20th through the 30th & felt like there were very few waits -- the longest standby we had was around 30 minutes. Many posted waiting times were actually shorter. We loved EMHs and used fastpasses, of course. It rained every day & lots of people left the parks while we stayed & enjoyed great ride times!

Given our 2005 experience, we thought June 7-17th would be great dates to beat summer crowds -- off-season isn't an option for us. We actually felt that the crowds were quite high. We managed to do what we wanted to do, & had a FABULOUS time, but we had to rethink our approach & get a different mind-set. We did EMHs our second day and were much less successful getting on rides/obtaining reasonable fastpass times in the first 2 hours compared to a regular opening day. We actually sat down after this first EMH experience & redid our "loose" itinerary to avoid all EMHs (early or late). THAT helped us. I used to scoff at the advice from the UG to avoid parks on EMHs, but I got it this time!! We tried to get to rope-drop most days -- when we arrived a half hour after park opening once or twice, we could tell we'd missed some prime riding time, but sometimes, you've just gotta sleep!!! Contrary to what most people want on vacation, we actually wished it had rained more to thin out the parks a bit!

I'm not trying to scare anyone!! Others who have been at the parks the same dates we were didn't perceive it as very crowded.

Just be prepared! Use those fastpasses, take nice long breaks in the afternoon, do hoppers if you can to give yourself more flexibility, and be joyful 'cause you're still at Disney, even if it is busy!!

we were there June 7-14. Our prior two trips before this were during spring breaks in March and April, so that's my frame of comparison. We thought that on the whole, the crowds were less last week vs. spring break. The only exception was our day at MK, a non EMH Wednesday. The lines just seemed to grow very quickly. And our past two trips we did not stay in the parks past noon, but we did at MK this day and the crowds over in the area of BTMRR and Splash seemed immense. Splash had broken down at some point so there was just a huge HUGE amount of people standing around waiting for it to start up again. The fast pass line for BTMRR extended out and past the entrance to the fastpass return line at around 1pm. The wait was maybe 30 mins in the fast pass line. We also stayed in HS past noon to ride TSMM with fastpasses at around 1 pm and again the fast pass line took about 30 minutes to get to the boarding area for the ride. I remember the stand by line for TSMM was 130 minutes at that point. And I thought who on earth gets in a 2 hour and 10 minute line????

You actually thought that the crowds were similar for June and spring break? Were your previous SB trips the week of Easter or a different time?

I'm used to Summer crowds, but I've always thought that spring break was WAY more intense. Maybe I can handle a SB trip after all. :teeth:

We thought that June was less crowded than spring break trips we've taken. Our previous trips were the end of March two weeks before Easter and the last week of April which was some sort of New England spring break week. In general there were more people, IMO, at both the March and April trips. But not WAY more people. I think if you can handle June, you can handle spring break (but have NO knowedge of a spring break over Easter week!)

bumping this thread up to the first page:goodvibes Hoping for more recent info on crowd levels.

:cool1: Got home today!!!!

We went to Magic Kingdom on Friday 6/20 and on Sunday 6/22
in my opinion, crowds weren't THAT bad... 10-30min waits for MK rides.
(I've been to Disney during Aug & Sept)

I did notice Space mountain had the longest lines whenever we we were over that way. We never made it on Splash mountain or Pirates... those lines were 90 min waits and even the fast pass was crazy long!

It was still hard for us to do the 30 min waits with 3 little kids, but I kept them busy in line...
But man it sure was HOT and humid! and oh, it was nice & hot on Friday (great pics that day), thunderstorm came through around 3ish and on Sunday around noon it got cloudy and the thunder storms rolled in so we left for a break and returned at 9pm.

and on a little side note..I ALMOST lost my camera!!!
It fell out of the diaper bag on the tomorrowland transit ride...
(and just as we were about to watch Wishes..I noticed it was gone!
I left my hubby & kids to run around frantically in the park, until I finally decided to ask at that last ride..
(which they found it)
and i missed the ENTIRE fireworks :( I was so sad!

Don't you know how hard it was to have a 1, 3, and 5 yr old up after 8pm... just to see fireworks.....lol but THANK GOD I found my camera...lol

Have fun everyone!! (and hold on to your cameras!):goodvibes
