Well, we got them today -- very cute...although there was a family feud over the Lime Green band (in our family "mopar" green). :confused3

Since I only learned about the bands within the last 6 weeks or so, I have to say the whole thing seemed like a fairly easy process and I hope the rest of it goes smoothly with the FP+ and all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Does the X-ray machine at airports ruin the bands or is it ok to scan through with carry on

Oooh I don't know but one of the times I was on the phone with Disney (did the magic bands crash course!!!) I asked about swimming and they mentioned the bands can sit on a dashboard in the Florida sun and still work ... so prob. ok with xray machine. I plan on taking in carry on bags. That would be a huge mess for Disney.

I wore it my on my wrist like a watch on the plane. My grandson went in the pool several days with it.

We enjoyed the freedom of using it. From entering the room, the parks, the rides and paying for things. It was quick and easy.

I just got back from 9 days on November 24, 2013.

They are fine. If you walk through the normal machine, that's a metal detector not an xray machine. If you go through the newer scanners, that might be radiation but it's not as bad as a normal xray. If you take it off and put it through with carryons, that's a stronger xray machine. If you check it, your bag is STILL getting xrayed as far as I know, you just don't know it.

So no matter what, it's going through some sort of detecting machine (laughing at that phrase), and actually wearing it through a machine is going to be less potentially problematic than the other options.

How long did it take to get the wristbands? I wasn't going to buy my annual passes until we got to WDW but I may have to buy them before so I can do the wristbands/fast passes....I already have 4 passes for the rest of party (grown children & spouses) but I need 2 annual passes for hubby & myself. Does anyone know if I wait to buy my passes until we get to WDW can I do the fast passes at that time?

Thanks for your help!:)

do not put bands in carry one, it cannot take xray, it said that in the notice I got to try them this trip, we passed, I have been in on Disney trials before, best to wait till the bugs r out IMHO, we took a hard pass this time but are going in a very light traffic time.
also, I'm reading things on tripadvisor that is not great about these bands. plus kids do not like to wear them all the time. and lots of other complaints, if you are allergic to latex yo're gonna have an issue.

This post is just plain wrong.

1. They go through x-Ray just fine. As prior posts above say, everything you check or carry-on at an airport is x-rayed. And there is no harm done to the bands by this at all.

2. They are made of hypoallergenic non-latex material.

3. Stating kids do not like to wear them all the time, is like making a blanket statement that "kids do not like Mickey Mouse." Our three kids were excited to wear them and choose their colors. You can't please everybody, but in general I think Disney did a pretty good job with their artistic design on the bands. It's not something you're gonna wear as jewelry after your trip, but they are unobtrusive and look fine to wear when at WDW.

4. Now as to your statement on the testing phase, finally we agree on something. The system still has a lot of bugs and glitches. But it's Disney IT. We all knew that was going to be the case. It appears that the company is going to keep throwing money at this until it works correctly.

I should have been specific, SOME kids won't want to wear them all the time, I thought people would know that without saying so.
also, they may have made them out of non latex, however people with latex allergys , may have problems as apparently the product seems to cause similar problems for many.
THe info I got in my email asking if we wanted to be in the trial warned us not to put them in carry on, but if we were taking the bus from the airport to keep them with us as we would need them to get on the bus. so, to me, that's a contradiction, and a problem. sheesh.

It says not to put them in your checked bags. From the email:
If you had your MagicBands shipped to you, you'll need them as soon as you arrive and will want to wear them while you travel and throughout your visit. If you're flying, make sure you don't pack your MagicBands in your checked bags. You'll need them to board Disney's Magical Express at the airport.

As has been posted, the printed material that comes with the MBs specifically says to make sure you put them in your carry ons. You can use them for Magical Express so you will need them before you have access to your checked bags.

Again, I wore one of mine through the full-body scanner and our other seven bands went through the scanner in our carry on. My band did not set off the full-body scanner and all eight bands worked perfectly for the entire trip.

I just got mine too. Pretty neat, came in a nice Incredibles box. Our names are printed on the box as well as the band. We used our nick names on our bands. Anyone know if thats gonna be a problem with linking our AP?

No problem. All the band does is emit an RFID code. The band could say anything on the print, as long as it is linked to the correct person's MDE profile it works.
