Received an extra $50 Disney Card due to my error, now I feel guilty.

I signed up for the Disney Visa 4 months ago with the $50 bonus gift card offer. Well, when I hadn't received it until two weeks ago, I contacted them and they sent me a replacement. Today, while going through some old paperwork, I noticed another envelope from them dated three months ago, and it turned out they did send it after all and I had misplaced it. After calling their hotline, both cards still have a $50 balance each. I called them about the error, but the CSR said to just enjoy it since it was an honest mistake and I am a 'valued cardmember.'

I've had a very lucky year to say the least... Now I'm thinking of when I visit the parks on my solo trip to help make some family's vacation by giving them one of the cards. I know $50 isn't much, but if I hear a family complain about the expense of a trip (which you sometimes hear at WDW), then I'll give them a card.

I'm not trying to look for praise since I'm certainly not the most generous when it comes to charities, etc.. just I don't feel like taking advantage of something when it was my own mistake. What would you guys do? Enjoy an extra $50 of stuff or give it away?

BTW, please no posts begging for the $50 card. ;)

:thumbsup2 It's fun to spread pixiedust: give it away :tink:

You seem like a very honest person which is rare now a days. Your planning to give it to a family that could really need it is very sweet, you will probably make a HUGE magical moment for someone. I really dont feel like you should feel guilty especially since you reported the error. I wish there were more ppl like you in the world..

You did the right thing but calling them and reporting the 2nd card. Its good karma, and because of it you got yourself a nice little gift. I say get yourself something nice, you deserve it! :)

Even the most honest people make mistakes. You did call and try to rectify the situation. Personally, I think you should enjoy it. Treat yourself to a nice meal, souvie, or a spa visit. I believe in karma. In your situation, I believe this is a gift to you for money you gave to someone in need or a good deed you did in the past. If you really do not feel right keeping this money, I suggest finding a needy family in your area and either offering them the $50 outright or offering to buy the children of the family some Disney souvies then sending a package from "Mickey Mouse". The latter can end up being the best money ever spent on souvies - imagine the look on those sweet faces when they get a package from Mickey!!! :goodvibes

If you are determined to do something nice with it.....I know of a great charity! See my signature. Maggie

PS. Anyone that can watch the 2006 video and not cry, has no heart.

Me, too! You shouldn't have a hard time finding that person/family. Have fun and awwww!! :goodvibes

If you really don't want to spend it on yourself, you could always use it at the Disney Store, if you have one, to buy school supplies to donate if your community has such drives. I think ours is called the First Day Fund. Our Angel Tree ... Christmas is coming up.

If it's going to make you happier - just donate it! Someone would love the surprise, especially at WDW! A family gave us 2 WDW mister fans as we were getting off the bus because they were leaving for home and didn't want to take them with. I couldn't believe it! It made our day even better!

To be honest, pretend you still did not receive the first card and just don't use it.

That happened with me, sort of. I got it with the $50 offer but the first gift card I received was for $15. I called and told them, and said I would send the $15 back, but they told me not to, to go ahead and keep it and then they sent the $50!

I applaud you for being honest, but it was just a mistake and you did the right thing by reporting it. They told you to keep it! Have a great time!

If you are going to donate it I would find a charity locally you know and give it to them or buy them something. To just give it away at Disney - you could end up giving it to Neurosurgeon and his family or other wealthy or well off person. How would you determine worthiness at Disney? some very well off people dress lousy or complain about prices even though they could very well afford everything. I applaud you for being honest!

I think it's up to you what to do with the card...and I applaud you for being honest as well!!

I know that it was mentioned that if you gave the card away that it could be going to a well off person...but in my mind, I'm thinking "so?" It's just about making someone's day more magical...no matter what their financial situation.

Ultimately whatever you decide will be fine and I wouldn't consider it taking advantage of the situation. You made an honest mistake, you honestly reported it...and Disney is telling you it's ok and to go ahead and keep it. No more reason to feel bad. :)

You are a very kind person and I think it is wonderful that you are going to share in your good fortune!
