Apparently they are trying to drum of business. Pretty distrubing flyer when your 54:scared1: . Hopefully they don't know something I don't:sick: . Between them and the AARP people I think i am going to file a harassment suit against the postal service............ Susan

We got an advertisement and letter about a month or two ago from a cremation place (MIL was cremated a few yrs back). Anyways, it was a contest for monthly drawings to win a free cremation! It was the weirdest advertisement- it was legit. I had to laugh b/c it was so bizarre  :rotfl2:
Talking about needing business

We get advertisements for AARP and no one is 50 in our house :confused3

Well, when you come down to it, it's just marketing. It's probably less expensive to bulk-mail than to first research which households in the funeral home's area house certain demographics.

Plus, when you think about it, there's no absolute age when people die. My mom died in her late seventies; my brother died a couple of months later - he was just past forty.

I - and I would think probably everyone in my city, and the surrounding area - have been getting marketing mail from a local memorial park for many, many, many years.

3 days after I turned 40 I started recieving mail ads for hearing aids IN MY WHOLE GIVEN NAME. At the time I was not amused. Now it quite funny at my ripe old age of 40 and 7 months.

My hubs is 46 and not an internet person. He hasn't recieved ANYTHING like this.

tada!

Now thats something I could use:laughing: Susan

I wonder if they had very many people enter the contest. Creepy. But when you think about how expensive a funeral is nowadays:sad2: . Susan

I just got one last week advertising our local funeral home. I'm wondering if they found out I was in the hopsital for 4 days with deathly high blood pressure!!! :scared1: :rotfl:

Just call them up and tell them you are dying to do business with them, but you don't have the money at this time.

The cemetary that we burried my dad at called a couple months after he passed to see if we wanted or needed to buy a plot for mom... that didn't go over to well here either.

My 5th grade yearbook had an entire one page advertisement for a funeral home. Just what every 11 year old graduating from elementary school wants.... a reminder that they're gettign old and will die soon.

:lmao: "A contest for monthly drawings to win a free cremation!"-- I think this is something that I wouldn't even try to enter cause I may just win! And I don't want to think about my pre arranged funeral.

That's just something I don't want to be solicited for........:scared1:

The week I turned 50yo my mail totally changed ~ dang, overnight I was in my golden years with ads for AARP, hearing aids, life insurance, retirement homes, nursing care and burial plots  !! DH and I joke they must know something we don't, however revenge is sweet, as 12 yrs later we're still alive and kickin'. :rotfl2:

So we have finally found something on the DIS that people DON'T like to plan to the minute detail.

Amazing! :rotfl:

I guess I'm the only one who wouldn't mind. I'm only 34 and I have no plans to kick the bucket anytime soon, but sometimes I wonder if I should pre-plan, since my mother (currently my only next-of-kin) doesn't want to listen to what I would like. Plus, here, you need to sign a statement if you want to be cremated, which the funeral home will keep on file. If you don't, your NoK can do whatever they want. I remember my grandmother signing it when she was diagnosed in the terminal stage of kidney failure.

I realize that my mother most likely just doesn't want to face the idea of losing her child, but it can happen. Her brother just lost his son - my cousin - at the age of 32 back in January.

Well I've been getting "join AARP" junk mail since I was about 30! lol.

I've never gotten a solicitation from a funeral home, but it wouldn't surprise me. My parents actually bought a plot when they were in their late 30s (at the same time my grandfather passed away...they bought a plot for my parents, moms parents, dads parents and my great aunt and uncle). Now that my parents are in their 60s, they have both pre-purchased their funerals and discussed the arrangements with the local funeral home (owned by friends of theirs). Its actually a bit of a relief to me as the future executor that I don't have to worry about that stuff or think too much about it when the time comes.

Well, I'm in my mid 40's and have already bought our burial plot (bought it about 10 years ago) and headstone (and had it engraved with our last name on the front and our names and dates of birth on the back). I know where I want to end up and this way I made sure of it. The way I look at it its one less thing my children will have to worry about. I thought of prepaying my funeral expenses too, but decided to wait on that. The place may not be in business when I die and I didn't want to waste the money.
