The camera uses a floppy, now granted I was very resistant to go digital, but I can honestly say this was a shocker for me to know these cameras are still around!:confused3
The pictures is very pixally and not sharp. It is ok to print as 4x6 but I needed it for our end of year slide show.
Any ideas on how to fix it or sharpen it or help it in anyway?

If the image is really that bad you amy see some improvement by increasing the resolution through one of the better algorithms, such as bicubic, and then applying some blur to portions of the image.

If it makes a decent 4x6 print there should be enough resolution since most monitors are no more than about 1 MP.

Thanks, but I think it is useless. I tried all different things, and printed out 4x6. I thought if I could get an ok 4x6 I could scan it....but the picture was terrible!
Bummer!

I don't feel comfortable posting it since it is of a group of kids who aren't mine.
But I feel it is a loss cause. I was hoping maybe I had to open it different or do something to see it clear.

I am guessing that the picture was from an earlier lifetime when digital cameras came with far fewer megapixels and that was all the sharpness you got.

Also note that a still frame selected from a video will have far less sharpness than just about any of today's video cameras.

Do you know what the original pixel count, or resolution, of the picture is? I do know of a few diskette type digital cameras that made pictures that were 640x480 which is about a third of a megapixel.

In addition, could the person who took the picture have not focused the camera very well?

It is an old Sony from before 1997. I know exactly what camera it was taken on. I would be surprised if it could print even a 4x6, muchless bigger. You should be able to do a slide show OK.

No it isn't the person taking it. I have complained about this camera before. But I always had back up pictures other parents would send me or I would take with my camera. (I do the external publicity for the school) I spoke to the PTG president last night about this camera and told them they should budget for a new one.

>>> Post it so we can take a look ...

OT: Come to think of it, I looked back on my computer and found that I have a few of these pictures someone else took with a diskette digital camera. I think the camera was a Sony and the model name was Mavica. All I remember about the camera was that it was squarish as seen from the front and not as deep as it was wide or tall.

They were from a factory tour I went on. They are 640 x 480.

I suppose that if you take any more modern digital camera picture, put it in Photoshop (tm) or another photo processing program, unzoom (not crop) it to 640x480, save the image in that size, and then reload and work with the 640x480 image, you will get similar sharpness.

I will bet $10 it is the Sony Mavica 7 or 73. I owned one and from the description thats exactly what it sounds like including the 640x480 :D

At my old job, we had the Sony Mavica, floppy disc storage, no zoom, 640x480... yes, it took horrible quality photos even when brand new. But hey, they were only 30k or so. :)

I don't think there's much of anything you can do to improve the results from them.
