Hi, I need to buy a new camera and I'm looking for any advice possible. We're returning to WDW in December but I'll be buying this camera far before that. I'd like to get a digital camera for the ease, any suggestions? I don't use flash on the rides so I don't have any ride photos and I'd really like to. Any suggestions for a good digital camera that can take adequate photos in dark areas? Or the best camera? Thanks very much, Christine

Dark with no flash = DSLR with a fast lens

They have really come down in price compared to a few years ago. The typical fast lens is a 50mm wide aperture one (i.e. f/1.4-1.8) Every brand of DSLR is good, so if you go that route, be sure that the brand you pick has the accessories that you would want in the right price range. For example lenses, flashes, extra batteries, grips, etc. I have a Pentax, so am sort of partial to them, but there are some great deals on the Canon Rebel XT right now. It is basically on clearance because it is two generations behind the latest model coming out any day now.

I'd say that the best camera for taking flashless pictures on dark rides is the Nikon D3. It's a tad complicated and a bit pricey.

Do you have a budget? Are you interested or willing to learn to use a DSLR?

Unless you really like Canon's such as the XTi, 40D, 5D or even the EOS1 Mark IIId :confused3

I'm a die-hard Canon fan. Facts are facts. The D3 handily outperforms any Canon at extremely high ISOs. The 1DsMIII puts up a good fight with comparable noise at significantly higher resolution, but over ISO 1600 the D3 is unquestionably superior. A friend has one and I have to say that it's low light capabilities are nothing short of amazing.

Thanks very much for all the replies. Let me ask you this...if I go into a camera store or department what do I ask for specifically? Christine

All kidding aside- I thik mark asked the right questions-

What is your budget?
Do you want to learn to use a dslr?

I know Joe who recently bought a Nikon D40 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens has posted some really amazing dark ride pics in the last few weeks on the POTD thread. You could get set up with a similar combo for probably around $1000.
