Rebooking onboard for discount

Our first Disney cruise is coming up in a few weeks. We have another Disney cruise already booked for 2023. I have read about the onboard booking discount, and my question is whether I can rebook the cruise I already have booked for 2023 onboard and get 10% off the price.

It's currently the same price as I locked in when originally booked. I assume worst case scenario I could book a new cruise for my 2023 dates onboard and then cancel the original booking, but I'd like to be able to keep the cabin I originally selected.

We booked the original through Costco, so don't know if this makes any difference.

Also, is it correct that with two adults in my cabin I'll be able to book a max of two future discounted cruises? So if I can rebook the 2023, I could book one additional placeholder? When it comes time to book a placeholder, for those who regularly use Costco, is it best to just call Costco when the booking date opens? Or do you have to book placeholders through Disney first and then transfer to a Travel Agent?

Thanks!

You don't book the cruise on board due to COVID. You can get a Place Hold reservation that gives you the discount towards a future reservation. You do all of that on the app and pay a $250 deposit. If COSTCO is your TA of preference on your account the Place Hold is sent to them as well. I think you will have to cancel and re-book your current reservation to get the discount applied. It's been awhile since I've tried that so hopefully one of the TA's will jump in and comment.

Right now I believe they are still only offering the “placeholder” which is the same benefits without an exact cruise date specified. After your cruise you can then contact to book a real date, and yes it will require a cancel and rebook.

Right now you can't book a specific cruise on board, only a generic placeholder. So you can keep your booked cruise until you get back from your upcoming cruise, then cancel it, and then immediately book that other cruise again, hoping that the same stateroom is still available. Sometimes it takes awhile for the original stateroom to show up back in inventory, and sometimes it's immediate. It might be easier if you booked the placeholder & new cruise directly via DCL, so you could change staterooms without having to call Costco. You can still transfer the new cruise to Costco within 30 days of booking and get the full Costco benefits.

It's been a while since I booked onboard, but at least at one time, if you booked 2 placeholders or future cruises while onboard, they had to be used for the same future cruise, not two different cruise dates

And a note… a placeholder that you don’t book to a firm date right away must still be transferred to a TA within 30 days or the TA cannot use it for you.

This was still the case as of Fri, when I booked my placeholder.

It also will ask if you want to assign to the same TA on file. My TA had gotten the confirmation email from DCL by Fri evening.

You can book two placeholder rooms together for each adult sailing with a unique household address. If there are more than one adult in your party with their own household address, each of you can book a set of two rooms that can be used independently from the other adult's booking.

We were in the same position as you. We booked a cruise in May and later decided to take advantage of low passenger numbers, booking a cruise in December. While I though about using the placeholder booking for our May trip, I ultimately decided to use it for a third cruise. As others have mentioned, I believe it’s one placeholder cruise per cabin, where you can book up to two rooms, separate deposit for each. A solution for booking two placeholders is to book one on each cruise. Now, all I have to decide is if we want a fourth cruise by May.

Can you book the placeholder cruise on the DCL website? I don't want to call customer service these days. Just like the OP, I already have a cruise booked for Jan 2023 but would like to rebook it with a placeholder discount that I can get when I cruise in a couple weeks.

So I would get a placeholder while onboard. Then book the cruise online using the placeholder discount, then cancel my original reservation?

Important thing to know is your base fare will be changed. You would be rebooking at current prices with the discount. So it might not be cheaper to do it anyways.

Is adult in this case 18+ or 21+ ?
