If you had to put a percentage value (based on income) on how much to spend on a vacation (per year), what would it be?

According to my calculations, we spend about 5% a year on vacations. Does that seem about right?

We spend about 5% of our gross income on travel. I don't think there is a right or wrong amount; depends on a lot of things, like your debt and waht you actually have available after bills are paid, savings is considered, etc.

For the big family vacation it is usually about 5%.

Everyone is going to have a different answer to this.

We only go on vacation maybe every third or fourth year, and the rest of the time we relax locally and do homeowner projects. When we do go, we probably spend about 5-6% for that year. So overall, we spend fraction of that.

it varies from year to year..if we have a big trip coming up we might do something closer to home/less expensive the year or two before..

the year we do a "big" vacation is probably about 5-8%

This would depend a lot on your expenses. Once the mortgage was paid, obviously we could spend more on vacations.

We have no debt and spend 15-20% a year on our vacations. It's our one luxury.
