Really, what is the world coming to?

My sons school has the same policy about no baked goods. Sugar can not be listed as one of the first three ingredients. We also have to buy the snack from an approved supermarket and provide the receipt as proof as to were we bought it.

our school happily accepts, no, encourages home baked goods to be brought in. Not only do we do it for the kids birthday's and special occasions, we also bring lots in for the teachers to snack on or to eat for lunch. We sell it or give it away on night-time occasions and for things like our haunted house for Halloween.

Everyone prefers the home made to store bought. Everything always looks so special.

I'm sorry, but I think the schools have gone crazy.
Rules for this and that and everything. Whoever said they've sucked the fun out of everything is exactly right. We all grew up without all these rules and I don't believe we suffered for it. I'm sending homemade cupcakes for halloween (Sorry, excuse me, that's fall festival day). We wouldn't dare celebrate halloween. We all know the kids arent' just having fun wearing a costume and having a good time with their friends. They're actually worshipping satan in their warped little minds. Come on.....get real!

What I want to know is why have things changed when pp have alway had allergies (me being one of them)??? My Best friend had serious peanut allergy but I sat next to her and ate PBJ everyday  I'm not meaning to sound rude to PP who have peanut allergies (my son has food allergies too so I'm in the same boat) When I was in school they didn't make the kids stay inside just because I couldn't go out....why ruin everyone elses fun? I know it's all because everyone is sue happy :lmao:

OMG OP I thought you were from our elementary school here in Michigan. Our principal IS a control FREAK!!!!

I imagine it has to do with liability. With so many people ready to file suit over piddly stuff most schools are just not willing to take the risk that some donated cupcakes made somebody's kid sick. And with all the concern over potential food terrorism(poison candy apples?) who could blame them?

Let it go.:hippie:

This is the reason our PTA gave us as well--liability and lawsuits.

My granddaughter brought home a note asking each family to supply a "healthy" snack for thirty kids. Suggestions were snack size raisins, gold fish crackers, popcorn etc.

On Friday's the teacher provides the snack. Her choice? Three Musketeer bars! What gives? :confused3

We're only allowed to bring in pre-packaged things also. I have to admit that it's somewhat of a relief to just buy something instead of have to make something ;)

I think the ban at our school is a good thing...we made m&m cookies and sent them in to my DDs class once. Imagine my reaction when the teacher informed me that 1 student was allergic to red dye...I was mortified!! I felt like the worst parent in the world, here I send these cookies in and 1 child can't eat them so really the only right thing to do is not allow any kids to eat any. So now, all the children are upset. I ran to the store and bought some cookies for the class, it's not the same, but safe for every child.

That ban has been at our schools a loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg time ago.
