Really want to upgrade to DxDDP?

We've always done regular DDP, but I would really like to try deluxe one time. My parents are with us this year, and we will be there during F&WF, so the extra snack creds would certainly come in handy. Any thoughts from folks who usually do DDP but upgraded to DxDDP? Did you like it? Wish you hadn't done it?

I think the only way you will know if it is right for you is to determine where you plan to eat and see which dining plan makes the most sense. For us, the deluxe plan works. We typically only eat at one or two QS locations per trip (if at all), and we do a number of 2 TS locations.

Both the DDP and DlxDDP work for us depending on what kind of trip we want. We like the deluxe plan when we want to do some signatures; otherwise, the DDP works fine for us. If you are planning to do some signatures and/or plan 2 sit downs a day, I think the deluxe plan is something to look into; however, I don't think I'd spend the extra cost for the deluxe plan just for extra snack credits (but that's just me). Good luck.

We tried DxDP for just the two of us, and we liked it a lot! We did some signatures and the extra snacks came in handy (I think we "wasted" a couple on bottled water, but frankly at that point it was necessary).

I likely will stick to the regular or QS plans when we go with the kids, but wouldn't hesitate to go deluxe again on another grown-ups trip.

A few years ago, we took my parents on a DxDP trip. They loved it. We did two TS meals per day, with a signature restaurant every night for dinner except one (only non-signature dinner was 'Ohana).

For the other daily TS meal, we alternated between character breakfasts and lunches. My parents quickly caught on that the signature dinner was a higher quality meal than breakfast or lunch so, on days where we did a lunch and a dinner, they typically only ate about half of their lunch. Otherwise, I don't know if they would have been very hungry for dinner (because we had our children with us, we tended to have earlier ADR times for the dinners).

They also only ate about half of their snack credits at WDW (they used the rest of their credits for snacks that they took home).

We love deluxe. We usually arrive early and leave late. So we use some credits for those days. Most days we have an early lunch or late breakfast at 1 ts credit place. Then, we do a signature 2 credit meal for dinner. During Food and wine, we actually do two signatures on our hollywood studios day. We got to the Brown Derby for an early lunch and a late dinner at Flying Fish on the Boardwalk. Then on Epcot day, we use zero table service credits and spend the majority of snack credits sharing things around the world.

We have done both plans and like each depending on what we are doing. I am upgrading to deluxe this trip so we can more signatures and more character breakfasts for our 14 month old. Yes it's a lot of food, but you gotta treat yourself every now and then!

We did the DxDDP for our first 3 trips, and it worked well for us. We really need to eat 3 meals/day so it was nice to have everything covered. (And Dh hates CS, so most of our meals are TS anyway). We had a harder time using all the snacks though, since we eat 3 big meals every day we don't tend to snack much. But after the first trip, I got wise and started collecting goodies to bring home.

For our last few trips we haven't done the DP at all because with the price increases, it has become cheaper to pay OOP but still eat the same way. Especially since DH never eats dessert anyway, and because I am a vegetarian, I am usually ordering the cheapest meal on the menu. We saved several hundred dollars over what the plan would have cost last year, on a 4 day trip.

We had twobroom last trip and I upgraded one. Wow! Best decision ever! We had a great time, ate well and enjoyed the extras.

Hi everyone. I have a quick question regarding the deluxe plan. I am going to disney for the first time next month and we have the deluxe plan.

I know that the snack credits are different and you have to look to see what counts as a snack credit. But what about the appetizers and entrees? Are we allowed any appetizer or entree on the menu or are only certain ones allowed? Thanks for your help.

You can choose any app and entree on the menu. The snacks are the same for every plan, but with the DxDDP you will have two per day per person

I suggest that you look at menus and prices online. A few years ago my family costed out the difference in price for the 5 of us, compared that cost to the OOP we knew we had committed to, and added money for petizers we figured we would share at the table, and found that we still were nowhere near the cost of the upgrade. Looking back I think that we should have added in more TS brreakfast and removed some CS meals for TS and then decided if we would have come up with the same result. This last trip we booked several TS meals for lunch rather than CS and we enjoyed that more.

Plan your ideal trip and include what TS restaurants you would dine at, and then decide.

It definitely depends on your restaurant preferences. My husband and I went back in January and will be returning in late October for F&W. Both trips we've had the Deluxe DDP. For the upcoming trip, he sat down with all our receipts from January and made an Excel spreadsheet (yes, he's a math person.. me, not so much!) of the costs with the DxDDP vs. what we would've spent OOP. We ate at 2-credit Signature restaurants every night of our trip, with a 1-credit TS lunch each day (we stayed Club Level so we didn't need breakfast, with the exception of the Wave one morning because their buffet is phenomenal). Adding in the cost of snacks, we definitely saved some money with the dining plan vs. paying OOP. He even took away the cost of the additional appetizer, since everyone gets their own on the dining plan, and we still came out ahead. Sure, we probably ordered some entrees and appetizers we might not have ordered otherwise because of the cost if we'd been paying OOP for them, but that's why you get the dining plan in the first place, right? It's vacation! The snack credits will come in handy during F&W too. We plan on using the majority of them for the more expensive F&W items. We don't have kids so I don't have any insight on whether or not the Deluxe DDP would be worth it for them, but for us as a couple it was a good choice.

We did Deluxe once. I would do it again, but only in winter when we are hungrier. This was in September, and it was HOT that year. We wanted light meals, and DxDDP meals are not light. That said, we did want more table service that trip which is why the DxDDP was attractive to us.

My biggest problem with the DxDDP is that each person gets individual appetizers and dessert at every meal. We are big eaters, but our little family would never go to a restaurant, order 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts. We would order an appetizer to share, an entree each, and possibly dessert to share.

I learned a lot of spacing of meals during that trip. If I HAVE to do table service lunch and dinner on the same day (only time I can get the reservations I want, for instance), I space them as far apart as possible. Most of the time, I schedule TS breakfast and dinner, and we just snack for lunch.

I did want to throw in that if an appetizer or an entrée says "for 2" or "serves 2", you have to pool your credits to get it. For instance, there's a few apps (like the Fritto Misto at Via Napoil for example) that it counts as 2 appetizers, and there a couple of entree's (Parrillada La Hacienda at La Hacienda San Angel or the 32-oz Porterhouse for Two at Yachtsman Steakhouse) that work the same way.

We almost always go during free dining and upgrade to the DxDP. We use every single credit and come out great for our money. (It costs about $50 PP per day to upgrade). For us it is well worth it!

We enjoy the deluxe dining plan. We usually go in late September. It's still pretty hot in Florida. We enjoy getting out of the heat for a sit down lunch and love going to the signature dining restaurants for dinners. So we are using 2 points for most dinners and one for lunch. We are foodies that love to cook & enjoy Disney's fabulous cuisine. An occasional breakfast is eaten with the leftover meal points. The snack points are used for the Food and Wine festival. Any leftover snacks are used to take home treats like candy and sweets. This works well, especially when it's just the two of us. It's a slower pace. We like doing the Disney dining plan when the family comes with us and getting onto more rides is important. Quick service lunches are quicker than table service lunches even with ADRs. Both plans are enjoyable. It just takes a lot of extra planning with ADRs for lunches and dinners. You need to know where you will be when it's time for lunch. Planning is what I love to do. So, whichever plan you choose. Enjoy!
