Let me start by saying we have a camcorder and it isn't the size of a news camera :) With that being said though I'd really like a new one. We don't take enough video and a large part of that is the inconvenience of carrying around a camcorder and a camera. The camera is small and we do use it more. But the camcorder is a pain in the butt. I'd really like one of the hard drive ones that are pretty small. Anyone have any recommendations on one to consider?

I ordered a flip video camera and I love it. You just pop it into the usb port on your computer to up load videos. There are several different models and styles and colors. I got mine thru Amazon a couple months ago. It is only a 30 minute version but it was also only $45. Most of them that are 60-120 minutes start at about $120 and go up. The camera itself is not much larger than a regular digital camera.

We are renting one from one of those rental stores! We don't normally take long videos so the video feature on our camera is usually fine but for this trip DH wanted an actual camera. :)

I too have a cheap flip (same one as the PP, Amazon deal for $45), and it's pretty decent and I carry it around everywhere because it is so small. My mom has one of the nicer flips and I love hers, and if I was willing to spend a little more I would get a nicer one.

I also have the Nikon D90 (DSLR) which does HD video (clips no more than 5 min long) and the Panasonic Lumix ZS3 (small fabulous point & shoot) which does HD video, no to mention my former Sony F828 which takes awesome digital video to CF card with no time max, so spending a lot on a flip didn't make sense since I had 3 other fully capable alternatives.

Unless you plan on using a camcorder a lot I would either go with a P&S camera that has decent video built in OR pick up a flip which is small enough to tote around everywhere. :thumbsup2

Too funny, just yesterday hubbie came home to like 8 tabs on my computer with camcorder stuff on it!!! :goodvibes I do have a nice smaller camcorder, Hitachi, you can use an SD card or the mini dvds but I was at walmart yesterday and saw the really small ones... not those flip ones, tried that but the quality was too low, but these are about half the size of mine. I was trying to find out if I could ebay my old one and get a new one.:thumbsup2 but doesn't look like it... even though I'd be downgrading, I guess my 2 year old camcorder is not good enough! Oh well!! Good luck though. I can't say anything about them, but those at Walmart were sleek looking, easy to carry (smaller than your hand) and I'll say the flip ones weren't any better than using my digital camera video so I couldn't recommend that.
