Really silly question about bags

Okay so DD5 (will be 6 by trip) and I are going in Sept. We won't be getting a stroller and obviously don't need a "diaper" bag but what type of bag is best? I'll want wipes, snacks and drinks. Maybe a change of clothes for her. And of course her autograph book/pen.

What do I do with the bag when we do the rides?

In the past it was DH and I and we just had fanny packs. I'm thinking a backpack type bag but no clue what to do with it on the rides.

I carry a small backpack (not one of the "mini" backpacks but definitely smaller than a standard one) that will hold autograpgh book, a few snacks, change of clothes, and a few other odds and ends. I also take a diaper bag but I have one in diapers still. I find the backpack comfy to carry and I just take it on any ride I go on. I put it beside me on the seat or if not enough room, on the floor.

I'm not used to backpacks so I take a shoulder type tote bag I just make sure it zips closed. I put it under/between my feet with the strap around my leg on wild (RNC/SM) rides have never had a problem. Put the change of clothes in a zip lock bag and squeeze out the air it will be very flat for putting in your bag, stay dry and be easy to locate when needed.

I carry a simple fabric tote. It's easy to open at security check (snaps closed), doesn't hold too much so not too heavy, and I just can't do the fanny pack - I hate digging through a tiny purse with stuff crammed in! I have carried it the last 2 trips and no probs - never lost anything , or had something stolen! I would recommend something with not a lot of zipper pockets - they will make you unzip and open them all at sec. check!

I've used both they each seem to work well ,it just depends on what your comfortable carrying! :sunny:

I was wondering hte same thing...so I don't think the question is silly at all. I think the small.medium sized back pack makes sense, but hopefully I will find one in a light color (to maybe cut down on getting a totally sweaty back while wearing it). :sunny:

We are also taking a small princess back pack for my daugher. She can carry a few things of her own and when she gets tired of it I can stash it in mine or I'll attach it to mine with a caribineer.

What ever you take I strongly suggest putting everything inside a large clear zip-lock bag that you can just pull out to show security and then let them see the inside of the empty bag. They will make you open every zipper pouch, and need to see to the bottom of the bag. You can rearrange everything into seperate spaces once you're in the park, if need be. I've done this for our last two trips and it's made the whole process much faster and security guards have commented on how it makes their job easier.

I bought a Walt Disney World backpack on our last trip and it worked out great. It has two pockets, the large one and then a small one in front. I kept DD's pen, autograph book and pressed pennies book in the small pocket. When DD needed her stuff she was able to just stand behind me, unzip the pocket and get what she needed. I didn't have to dig in a big bag looking for a pen or anything. In the large pocket I kept DS's diapers and wipes, a change of clothes for both kids, snacks, juice, rain ponchos and our camera. We had a stroller but either me or DH usually carried the backpack. We took it on all the rides, and had no problems with it.

Great tip, thanks for sharing!

If you are arriving early to the park, could you put a change of clothing in the car? If you're staying onsite this wouldn't work, of course.
I think a small back pack for you and a fanny pack for your child would probably do the job. We had a big backpack but we also had a stroller. However, we brought the backpack on most of the rides that younger kids could go on. For the other rides we did fastpass and switched we took care of all the stuff. I can't imagine stowing anything on space mountian LOL. :bitelip:
We found an abundance of fanny packs at our local thrift store...one with mickey and friends....

I read a good tip somewhere else that I am going to try in Oct. Have a tiny bag (over the shoulder etc dont think it's important what type) just big enough to hold money, sunglasses, tickets etc (the valuables) inside your main bigger bag, which can be kept over back of pushchair (sorry, UK language). Whenever you park your pushchair away from you, you can just grab the valuable bag (which wont be at all heavy) leaving the non valuable bag outside. Guess the only problem would be if you are in a long queue and need stuff to entertain kids.

Pushchair being a stroller? That is a good idea. I may try that next time as well. The OP said she's not getting a stroller though so it wouldn't work for her. Oh how I miss the days when we didn't HAVE to have a stroller. Next year I guess we'll have a double and a single or... I wonder if they make a lightweight triple stroller :rotfl:

We took one of those teardrop-shaped bags with one strap that goes diagonally across the front. It was big enough for camera, sunglasses, Dd4's hat, change of clothes, toddler wipes, cell phone and a bottle of water. Pretty much everything we needed. The nice thing is, since it only has one strap, it's easy to slide the bag part around to the front. That worked great for most rides and for security (just slide the bag around and unzip the pocket- no need to take it off) We got our bag at Target in the luggage section for about $15.

I'm taking the cutest messenger style bag - just big enough for what we need. It's denim, has Cinderella on it, and best of all, it was $10 at Wal-Mart, lol. It's nice to sling across my chest so I don't have to worry about dropping/leaving it, but small enough to tuck in anywhere.

I got a really cool canvas bag from Walt Disney World for $10 when I spent over 50 bucks in a store there, i carried it everywhere, put it in the stroller, with cameras, film hygiene, diapers, wipes, meds, money. etc

Our regular diaper bag is a Jansport backpack with 4 compartments and that is what we took. It worked great for us and it didn't take security that long to go through it. We have 2 kiddos though (one in diapers), so we needed a lot more gear. We took it on all the rides that the whole family could go on without a problem, but not sure how it would work on the coasters.
