DH and I would like to get a really, really inexpensive computer for our DD 4 1/2 and DS 2 1/2 only to play their new software games on. Any suggestions on where to go or a particular brand? No bells and whistles are necessary for this purpose. Thanks!

Most weeks you can get a new eMachine (including monitor, printer, etc.) from places like Best Buy for $300-350 after all the rebates and that week's particular discount. Nice little machines and a fantastic deal. If that's too much to fall into "really, really cheap", then you're going to have to start looking into used models.

Search on Gottadeal.com or fatwallet.com for some great deals.
You can compare and dealfind too.

good luck.

Dell's year end is January 31, so they typically will start letting computers fly out the door fairly cheap (under $400 or so) the last 2 weeks of January to meet sales goals. A good way to pick up a good computer at cheaper than normal prices!

How old is your current computer? You might be better off just giving them your old computer and purchasing a new one for yourselves. But if you're not interested in doing that, I would recommend an eMachine with an AMD (instead of a Pentium) processor. AMD processors are very good and cost a fraction of what a Pentium processor does.

I would also consider upgrading the keyboard to a kid-friendly one that will withstand the pounding that younger children can dish out. And a child-size mouse for those smaller hands would be a plus as well.
