If anyone is from the Boca Raton area, I need your help. DH was offered a job there. We have just built a house in Celebration, so obviously we'd have to get another place in Boca. We have found some nice apartments online, but we really don't know the area. Where is the nicest place to live apartment-wise? Is Boca as nice as it seems to be from pictures and reputation? What is the lifestyle like there?

We'll hopefully be making a trip down shortly, but I'd like to get any background info I can before we go there. Thanks!

PM me with the info on what area you have found apartments that you liked in Boca Raton. I live in Delray Beach which is the next town north of Boca (I actually work in Boca and am there right now) I have lived in Delray all my life so I know the area well.

Boca is nice (even though I am partial to Delray) Lifestyle here is anywhere from casual laidback to business types. In east Boca you have alot of "old" money people (they have had money in the family for a long time - and don't tend to be snobby like the people that I call "new" money people) The "new" money people tend to live in west Boca. But then again that doesn't always mean that EVERYONE is like that and they aren't. There is alot of things to do down here, you have plenty of beaches to pick from (again I am partial to the beach in Delray - actually was just selected as a "Blue Wave" beach which is an enviornmental certification given each year certifiying it as a clean beach, which also takes in account protecting the environment and human health.) Also there are plenty of shopping malls/stores in this area. You are close to major cities such as Ft Lauderdale and Miami. I am sure there is more that I am missing. I would be happy to help you out so just PM me.

I just moved from Boca in March after living there 15 years. Good area to be in...getting quite expensive compared to other areas though. Might want to check places in Delray or Deerfield Beach, each a town north and south of Boca. Deerfield would put you in Broward County as opposed to Palm Beach.

Just PM if I can help. Good luck!

Thank you both! We're set on living in Boca Raton. My DH has commuted to work for long enough. This time around, he's going to have a 5-minute commute if I can help it.

What is "quite expensive" in terms of actual numbers? Can you get a good house (3 bdr/2 bath, garage) for under $500K? We may want to buy a property in Boca Raton also if my husband likes this job. Thanks!

You can definitely get it under $500K. Just an example...I owned my home 7.5 years. I sold it for more than double what I paid for it! :Pinkbounc :teeth: There are many nice communities to live in. Do you know what area of town he'll be working in?

I also live and work in the Boca raton area. It is as nice as it looks!

There are some very nice apartments right near where I live on Military Trail near Yamato.

It will be hard to find a nice, newer house for $500,000 in east Boca but that will be easily possible in West Boca.

I have relocated lots of employees here and all have universally loved it - except for one who missed their family up north and even they call every winter and say what a mistake they made!

Happy to answer any questions...

Oh and I have a 10 minute commute from office to work and I love it!

My husband will be working in Boca Raton itself. OK, now for the REALLY important stuff, LOL! Is there an organic grocery nearby? What about a holistic vet? If anyone knows the name of one, please PM me. We'd also love the names of a good family Dr., a good OB/GYN, and a good dentist in the area. I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Yes there is a Whole Foods Market on Glades Road (just east of I-95)

I only found one vet that was listed on the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and she is in Boynton (don't know anything about her though)

As far as OB/GYN I have a good one who has an office in Boca by the Boca Hospital and also has an office in Boynton by the hospital there. If you want more info let me know.

Probably see where in town your husband will work and then search communities if you want to be close. I can tell you I lived in the northwest part of town while DS was in private school in the southeast part of town. What a pain to drive! And then drive west again just 4 miles from my home to get to work. I was driving 40 miles a day. WAY too much!! HATED that drive. LOLOL!

I absolutely LOVE my OB, but he's semiretired now. Just doing GYN. I would think you need to see what insurance company you'll be covered by before choosing one. If you need any suggestions, I can let you know of a few. I worked at a hospital in town 8 years...in Medical Staff! LOL! ;)
