So I bring my son to Kohls to see if he can get a few things for school shopping. He didn't find anything that he "needed" of course. But he did pick up a pair of baskeball shorts (for gym class) and 2 ties for work. I get to the register, hand them my 15% coupon and the total STILL came up to $53 !!! WTH :scared1: Then the cashier had the nerve to tell me that I "SAVED" like $54 !!! REALLY? You're going to tell me that a pair of shorts and two ties normally cost $107???

AARRRGGHHHHH

Nah, you didn't really save anything. The Kohl's sale price, with coupon, is about the fair price. Ties seem to be pricey anyway. I never go to Kohl's thinking I've gotten a deal or saved. I'm just happy if I pay an acceptable price.

Yeah they are! He likes a certain kind (of course) by Jerry Garcia. Normally, they run about $38 and they were on sale for $22. Even then I'm like, "shouldn't ties be like $5?" :thumbsup2 Normally he buys his own ties but I figured I'd grab him a couple for work while we were there. From now on, he's on his own for buying those ties. LOL

I had the same experience at Belk last weekend. Supposedly I saved $347. I don't think so.

I don't shop at kohls unless I'm desperate. It's a little closer than the mall. It makes no sense that I can get 3 pairs of clearance jeans and a jean jacket at Gap for under $100, when the same stuff would be at least $160 (also clearanced) at kohls. I consider gap stuff to be better anyway.

I take it back. $80 at Gap. Twice as much at Kohls. I can also save a ton by buying Carter's stuff at the Carter's store over kohls.

I guess I'm not understanding why you were upset. Did these items not have a price tag on them? Did you not know how much they were going to cost before you went to the cashier? If you thought they were too expensive, why didn't you just go somewhere else?

OP, just a tip: Occasionally my local Marshall's will have Jerry Garcia ties. They are often only $12.99. They might be last year's style but who cares.

This is funny because DH and I always walk out of Kohls feeling like we stole stuff! We only shop the clearance and sale racks and only when we have a 30% off coupon. We look for the great deals and don't get something if we don't like the price.

That's so sad! Maybe you guys just aren't hitting sales at the right time. I save (honest-to-god save) all the time. Last time I ordered online, I got 8 bras (not expecting to keep them, just hoped a few fit) for $83 shipped. Good bras too! Maidenform, Vanity Fair, etc. The savings are there, you just have to know how to work it. And don't get me started on the absolute killing I make around Christmas, combining % off codes with sales already going on.

I'm glad somebody said it!!

Exactly! You can get some great deals of the clearance racks.

I don't get paying for something, and then complaining about it. There are a million stores out there! Consignment shops are big right now too. If you don't want to spend $22 for a tie, don't.

I think telling you what you have saved is a trend with a few stores right now. Even a local grocery store does it.

Shopped Kohls for dd11 this week. She wears adult sizes but we couldn't find anything appropriate for her anywhere else She got 5 shirts she is very pleased with for $35. I can also find something for myself when I shop there fi r a fair price. I also watch the sales racks.

Now I don't like how stores show the 'you saved' price on the receipt. It's an attempt at a mind game to make you think you got great deals.

I only shop Kohl's if I have 20 or 30% off and it's lowest prices of the season.

I'm with you on this. I think both Kohls' and Belks' regular prices are usually way too high. Only when they have the 75% off racks (and it's usually nothing but strange stuff on there), do I consider their prices truly "sale" prices. The only time I buy any thing at either of those stores, it's when I can't find the item any place else.

Yes, but when you have a Kohls charge, coupon, clearance, AND TN tax free weekend... you get a good deal. Belk also had a ton of clearance today AND tax free as well. Got jeans and a cardigan at Kohls, a dress and some sleep pants at Belk (REALLY nice quality dress for $24), and a shawl at Ross today. Was very happy with my prices.

I also have to say that I do not understand the original complaint. You saw the prices so I don't know how it could be a shock or Kohls' fault. If it was too much, then don't buy it. Easy.

Ties do not cost $5. The ties my husband wears to his job cost many, many, many multiples of that. Of course, you can buy less expensive ones but the days of $5 ties are long gone. I just looked at Nordstrom and their sale ties are in the $50-$75 range. What brand shorts were they? My kids wear UnderArmor and Nike shorts when they play basketball. Those are expensive. They also wear C9 from Target shorts for basketball and even those are $12-$15/pair.

I don't understand the outrage. Didn't the clothing have price tags on it?

That's exactly what I was going to say. :confused3

Op may just be venting. nothing wrong with that. I love baking, do it all the time at home, donate bake goods to church and I swear the price of butter is going to cause me to pop a blood vessel. Yeah I know the price but it doesn't make me feel better. KWIM. and I hate baking with any thing else.

anyhoo,
I rarely shop at Kohl's, never liked the quality and generally find better sales at better stores.

Ties!! LOL like butter I think they are ridiculously priced. My dh and older son constantly complain about the cost of them.

Uh..yes. Right there in your second post, you say that the Jerry Garcia ties average $38.00

So..$38.00 x 2 = $76.00

Basketball shorts, especially if they are Nike or Underarmor, average around $45-$50. Even Kohls cheaper Champion brand retails for over $30.

So, 2 ties at $76.00 plus one pair of basketball shorts (let's use the really cheap Champions at $30) equals $106 and does not include tax yet.

$38 + $38 + $30 = $106

Simple math.

Just got back from Kohl's. My 15 year old niece knows she can get me to buy her clothes if she shops the sale rack. Shorts $3, 2 tops $4 another paid of shorts $9. , less my 15% discount. Yes, I agree, I did not save the "total" amount they said but I did get bargains.
