:wizard::rolleyes2So... I thought I would never do this... write a pre trip report... but I have been having some serious withdrawal that I have to do Something to contain my addiction problem of everything Disney before people start to think there is something seriously wrong with me.

Seriously I have been lurking these sites for several years. Think I only joined this site about a year and half ago even though I was here several times before that. I am also a member at TGM, but suffice to say I think that site has fallen to the wayside recently....:sad2: If anyone is a member over there, my screen name is the same, and I am the one who produced the snack credit cheat cards printable on index cards for each available park and resort...

I have been to Disney 9 times. My love really came when we went on a family reunion in 2007 on my in laws DVC credits. We stayed at OKW 1 bedroom. The visit before this was in 2000 off site. Holy Crap! The difference between staying at a value hotel/motel offsite,, to OKW,,, well lets say.. we were never going to do Disney the old way again. My kids were hooked. When we came back from our trip in 2007 they all talked about Disney for months. I mean randomly we would be shopping in the grocery store and my then 6 year old would sigh out loud,,, "mommy,,," me: yes Shane? Shane: "I miss Disney soooo much." me: "you do? why?" Shane: " Cause that is the happiest place in this whole world, and I love it sooo much cause they love me too..... with tears down his face"
My heart just sank. I went home that night and looked into buying DVC. No spiel from the DVC people, no incentives, no nothing... I bought into AKL Kidani........ in 2 months we were planning our next trip. :cool1:
Now ,, this may have been hasty to some that spend months researching, doing Disney Math, figuring if there was a better deal. For me it was a no brainer. I was going to do anything to have my kids go to there happy place too. My hubby knew better then to even dispute with me,, and I believe in all honesty he wanted it just as much.
I guess this would be a good time to introduce the Cast of Characters... and characters is saying it mildly...
Me: Lisa 41 A registered nurse in post/pre anesthesia surgical. Friends think I am hilariously funny,, life of the party,,, the female Jim Carrey... I am still not sure why they say that  I just say things that come to my head and they laugh. That is what they think is so funny too.. that I just speak what I think and its always hilarious. So please people keep this in mind if I respond rather strangely to you, its not to offend, I am Italian and that just how it rolls. Lets see what else?? oh yeah... I am a Disney Freak! whoduh thunk? I have read all the Disney books, biographies, Imagineers books, secrets, and blah blah... so full of useless information I am! When ever someone even mentions the idea of Disney around me, I go off like a crack addict on my love for Disney, and did you know antics.
Tim: 43 the love of my life too... even though he can seriously drive me crazy at times because he falls into the male syndrome.... you know , the one where I believe the male species is missing a link up there somewhere when it comes to knowing what the wives want. I mean seriously people! We have been married for years! nothing has changed! I still do everything the same, so why in Gods name would I want something done differently today? More on this in the future.. you will see. Tim has been a mechanic for 28 years. Started in high school and knew he wanted to do it for the rest of his life. I admire him for that. He knew what he wanted to do, regardless of his parents telling him to go to college, and he is 100% happy with his career. Not for me to have those greased, black , dirt, oil, digusting hands.. but to each his own! :scared1:

Kyle: 20 son... a junior college student at Rutgers Engineering in NJ. Hmm what do I say about my introverted yet sensitive son? Well since he was born he was stubborn. He remains stubborn to this day. He does not express his emotions, very quiet, hates , hates attention on him. Loves geocaching, robotics, and anything technology savvy. I guess that is why he is in this major huh? :rolleyes1 He has been going with a nice girl since his sophmore year at school. This Jan will be 5years for them? I am hoping they don't ever read this, because between you and me,,, I think an engagement is coming, and they are talking a Disney wedding!!!:yay:

Kyle and Jen.. photopass at AKL
Heather: 17 year old senior high school student. Heading to college, has no clue where yet, to be a physicist. :scared1::scared: Just that word scares me! I mean what the heck? where did this come from? She wanted to be a surgeon, I tried talking her into a psychiatrist as opposed to a surgeon. I work with surgeons, and they have no lives. The hospital is there life. On call , night, weekends, emergencies. I told her,Heather, Psychiatrists get to make your own hours , charge astronomical prices , and listen to other peoples problems... nice money. Now before I have any psychy people out there jumping on me,, don't be offended. I think your job is hard too....honestly I don't know how you do it. My MIL is a psych RN MSN., and well lets say I think it got to her. Anywho, back to the daughter. She too loves everything Disney. She has so many favorites , I am not sure I know them all. First,,, Pooh , then Tink,,, then Jack Sparrow... wait there is Marie too, and Alice! I think she loves them all , and can not decide which she likes better. She knows all the songs to every single movie, knows all the words... knows the parks songs, the ride speeches.. the monorail speech... I mean good god girl.... that is just plain freaky. I don't know where she got that from... :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Shane 11 a big six grader.. the one who melted my heart into buying DVC..:lovestruc: Just as much a Disney freak as the rest of us... he is much more outgoing.... talks to random people,, anybody who will listen is what I should really say.. I mean ,,, I often ask him if it hurts to talk so much?:sad2:
His two older siblings are constantly embarassed by him because he talks to people. He is my sports kid,,, football, baseball, wrestling, and lacrosse... you can imagine the thoughts through my hubby and my head when he comes home from school one day, and announces he wants to play the violin:confused: Where in the H E double hockey sticks did that come from? Tim thought he was going through an identity crisis... :rotfl2:

Jen: 20 Kyle's girlfriend. Junior college student at University of Delaware, studying special education. A sweetheart for my son ... and best of all she loves Disney too!!! her favorite is Pluto.

I love this photo of her,,, so jerseyliscious.... :rotfl2:

well my first three trips were so long ago,, that I can not recall too much. Other then I went in 78? then in 82 right after Epcot first opened. I do remember Epcot and River Country vividly though when we went in 82. Then I went again during our senior high school trip in 88...

I forgot to mention, that while I am now living in North Dakota,,, I just recently moved here from New Jersey a year ago. I am a Jersey Girl at heart,,, but Jersey is not the same anymore. Add the recent NJ t.v. shows, and I hang my head in shame...:sad2:
Now bearing in mind that from Jersey we could flights to MCO for about 175 round trip,,, we made many trips...

Next trip was in 2000...The Millenium celebration!!party: we stayed off site. (GASP!!) Shane was just 3 months old,, and we drove the 17 hours straight through the night. My poor husband... when I think back on that trip we took in June no less..... he was soooo exhausted.

Next 2007 with my husbands entire family on DVC points at the OKW... all 23 of us!!! Now mind you,, I did not know I would be buying my own DVC points at the time, and I had set in my mind ,, make the most of this 8 day trip cause you don't know when you will be back!... Well did I ever. I joined TGM and became an educated DISNEYtourist.... we went from 7 am till midnight every day.... we made a day trip to Universal,, saw the blue man group,, did Typhoon Lagoon.. Character breakfast, Grand Gatherings,,, Luaus... you name it... we did it all... by day number 3 my family was calling me Tour Guide Lisa... I did not find that funny at all... ya little snot nose kids... you would be waiting in hour long lines if it were not for me...:rotfl2: In their defense.. I was crazy. I was determined. I got the job done. It got so bad,, that Shane,, my poor little guy fell asleep on the rocks in Universal from pure exhaustion, and dear hubby sat with him till he woke up.. Every night on the bus ride home he would fall asleep and not even wake up when we put him to bed.... One night we came home around midnight,, put him in bed,, started to undress him for P.J's,,, he opened one eye halfway and said "Is it time to go again mommy?":rolleyes1 this is what I got from my husband  sooo.. we slept in the next morning.... Must not have been too bad, cause this it the trip that Shane guilted me into buying DVC... yeah thats right people,,, I am blaming it on a 6 year old......:lmao:

Flash forward Nov 2008 JERSEY WEEK.. Saratoga Springs... I know I know,, there are lots on all the boards about warnings of the obnoxius Jersey people... and you know what? They are right! :rotfl: I don't know but I noticed more people arguing with cast members at all places about how they were right and the cast members were wrong.. puhhhhlease people..... Your from Jersey,, ya got that accent,,, I can tell where your from..... lighten up already! This is Freaking Disney!!! Tim, me, Heather, and Shane went. We took my mother with us this time. We paid for her entire trip...everything. What did my mother keep saying to us? Well nursing must be paying the big bucks if you can afford all this!!:sad2: Really,, I mean REally!!! ugh..... and to top it off... my kids and i get so happy giddy in Disney,, that she had the audacity to ask my then 15 year old if she was smokin the Marri jew anna..... yes that is right folks,,, you are not misreading,, this how my mother says the name for the drug.... well this made me and my daughter laugh so hard that she swore we were both doing it....:lmao:
familyfixed-1.jpg

Next up 2009 Nov Jersey week Animal Kingdom 2 bedroom savannah view Kidani villas 7 days The family went except for my oldest, cause he was going in March with his senior class. We took my sons best friend  and his mom& dad too!! We happen to be real good friends with the mother and father,,,,This was also their first time,,, so it was sooo awesome to show them everything! We had an awesome time!

Well we knew there was yet another family trip with the said in laws in 2007 coming up in August of 2010 so we decided to buy the annual pass through DVC for our trip in Nov. Well heck if we have the annual pass.. then why not...

another trip!!! :yay: Having some Star Wars freaks in my house,,, I mean fans.... and an annual pass... we took my daughter and my youngest son for their birthdays to the Star Wars weekend in June! it was just a 4 day trip and we stayed at Pop this time. I liked the resort fine,, but my kids :snooty::snooty::snooty: After having stayed at the Deluxes.. they became snobs.... "mom,,, please don't make us ever stay here again" !!! I had a talk with them.. trust me... ya little snot nose.. listen here... blah blah.... ok not quite that way... but similar... and they shaped up... next thing I know... I am getting a :flower3: "sorry mommy.. we love you, and thank you,, no matter where you make us stay" :scared1:
We were the freaks that got the taxi at 3am to get to HS, to sleep on concrete in the dark with the other Star Wars freaks/er I mean fans.... People... I was never so out of my element. I mean these people meant business. They had tents. They had coolers with rolling carts, They knew the cast members by a first name basis,,, We got fastpasses for all 4 or 5 of the special guests. Oh, and by the way... it was soooo hot that our clothes weighed 10 lbs more going home from the sweat... I kid you not. We had souvineirs in a new carryon that we bought,,,,, the clothes weighed more going home. Yes. GROSS... uhgggeeeddd I did laundry at midnight it grossed me out so much when we got home. :laundy:

August 2010- in law family trip 2 bedroom Kidani Savannah view. Total count for family was at 32 now. We had an additional 2 ourselves, as I let my daughter bring her bestfriend (another Disney freak) and my son brought his girlyfriend ... This trip worked out fine, no mishaps,,, a few drama from my darn kids..... but all in all,, a good trip. HOT! not as hot as Star Wars though... oh and we were introduced to the BRAZIL STAMPEDES!! what???? I never saw this before or read about this until I got home... it was bad. They were rude,,, and chanting USA slurs... so what did my brother in law do when we left a family gathering of 32 people and an obnoxious Brazillian chanting group was in front of us? He pulled out his American flag held it up high like he was a group leader and chanted USA.. which then in turn about 80 people surrounding us, non family, started to chant too... it was funny and sad at the same time... I mean really? in Disney???? but apparently the 80 some Disney fans surrounding us had had enough too... too bad. I thought you know,, its really sad for those that this was their first trip and first impression of what Disney is. Disney is brotherhood, where everyone talks to strangers and acts like they care about each other, and they were not getting to experience this...

This is half of the crew at the Illuminations Grand Gathering...

So while in Kidani with the 30 somthin family,,, I got to thinking... I want to have my whole family here too! There are 3 seperate families, mom and my sister who is by herself. This would be a total of 15 people. But how to do the sleeping arangements? These kids are all practically adults now. How many points will I need? ... ......
Hence the year and half wait. We have to bank points, and possibly borrow to pull this off......

Next problem... 2 kids will be in 7th and 12 th grade, while the others will be in college. Okay when can we go? Well the 5 college kids certainly cant miss school.. ok,, we will go during winter break. Perfect right? Wrong... ND colleges winter breaks only last till the 8th or 9th.. WHAT???? I mean the East coast has until the 19th or 20th before they have to return... Ok welll how about May? no too hot and too crowded... OK then January.. 2 kids will miss school.

Ok but I want to see the Osbourne lights

Hmm... Jan 2 sound good? ok... check.

As of right now looks like all 16 will be there from Jan 2 till the 8th. Then my immediate family will stay until the 12th.... 10days baby!

now next problem.. where or where to stay... This has been an ongoing thing mainly with my older two kids. They dont want AKL Kidani, cause they have been there already.. .yeah but guys I can reserve the Grand Villa at 11 months!

So far my plan is to reserve Kidani Grand at 11 months... and see 7 months in if anything else is available.. preferable OKW cause they are so roomy.... The last 5 days of the trip is still up in the air....:sad2:

My family... 6 total

My brother, wife and niece and nephew 16 and 18

My brother wife and nephew 18

Mom & Sister....

I'm finding your ptr absolutely hilarious!

I have to ask, what made you move from New Jersey to North Dakota? First word that comes into my mind is FREEZING :lmao: I currently live in Canada (not Canadian myself, but my husband is, and I just HATE the cold!!!). Never been to New Jersey (well only the airport), and have never seen Jersey Shore. Don't plan on watching it either, I am sure its not a true representation of New Jersey!

Your family seems like a lot of fun! I'm trying to plan a family trip next year, hopefully I can pull it off. Thankfully my family is small at the moment and the only one who doesn't have flexible vacation times is my mum, she's a teacher. Don't think it would set a good example her skipping school for Disney :rotfl:

Yay for you guys and the Brazilian tour groups. Never encountered them as a full on group. But have heard many stories of them on this board. But why would you go to a country and start chanting slurs? Seriously.....if you haven't got anything nice to say then don't visit!! I'm not American, but I think I would have been tempted to do what your brother in law did!!

:wave2: so glad your enjoying it!... Glad I have at least one reader...:thumbsup2

Your a very smart person to not watch JerseyShore..its just plain,, well stupid. My brother about 14 years ago, had enough of jersey and the politics/people. He applied online for his fire chief position in ND.. and they hired him! We thought he was crazy. That is until we flew out to ND to visit. Then we fell in love with it too... it just was not a good time to move. Last summer I had enough of how miserable my surroundings were,, came home and said to my husband ,, enough. In three weeks we had our house packed and we moved. Still have our house in NJ, we are renting it out. We came out here not knowing if we would find a job. In 1 week we both found jobs. Yes.. It is FREEZING in the winter!! but so pretty too... I would love to come and visit Canada and really see the real countryside of it. I watch the movie in Epcot and fall in love with it.. Now that I live so close, maybe we will!! What part of Canada do you live? Been to the Canada side of Niagara Falls. That was before we needed passports.:sad2:

Well we can plan family trips together then!! What month do you think you will be going? you will have so much fun
:yay:

Yup, your a lot like us. Decide to do something and you just do it!! After living in England for almost 6 years we decided it was time to move back to North America. 3 months later we were back!! When we moved over there, we did the same thing, 3 months from deciding to actually moving :rotfl: People think my husband and I are mad.

Currently we live near Toronto. Probably about a 45 minute drive. After living in the UK, we are slowly adjusting back to live in North America. I was very surprised at how difficult we have found it to adjust.

Not sure yet when we are going to go, would love to go back September 2012, but if my mom comes that won't work. Maybe October 2012 or February 2013 (so long!!). Need to have a family discussion!

I am so sorry to hear it was so hard to adjust. Lived in England huh? That must have been sort of like an adventure right? I would love to do stuff like that if I did not have kids to uproot. I always tell my husband when I have no more kids in the house, I want to do overseas nursing.. I think it would be so fun to see how people live life everyday in other countries.

You will be so close to my month!

Ok a little off topic,, but I saw the AVATAR partnership with Disney is coming to AK! At first I was like ,,, bleh. I like the movie a lot,, but in Animal Kingdom? but then I thought,, ,you know what,, this is Disney,,, and they will certainly make it an awesome experience.... I just hope it does not ruin the park to one of those Toy Story Mania Stampedes...

a little highlight at our past trips: 2007

20081120_212.jpg

Grand Gathering at Tusker House... this was the last day Tusker House would be open, they were closing the next day for the new restuarant Tusker House that is there today... First we went on a private safari bus tour just our group aftet the park closed, Then they had sit down family style dinner as opposed to buffet. They had a 3 piece African band playing, visit with some animals they had outside the restaurant with a learning experience, and of course some characters. The food was incredible,,, and it was an awesome experience,, so sad they changed it, and is now discontinuing it.

I keep going back and forth with this. Of course it will all boil down to what Disney has available and I would be fretting over which is the best choice for nothing. We have stayed at Kidani savannah view 2 times now. We love it to pieces. But we really would like to stay somewhere different just to try it out. OKW is so much roomier and bigger , but the walk to the hospitality and stores can be pretty far. However OKW has a boat dock right there, which makes it a nice option for DD or HS etc. So far I need a Grand. I believe only half the family will be there for 5 days, the rest will stay 10 days. So I was thinking to try BWV, BCV, BLV, or maybe even possibly Grand Floridian if they get that completed by the then. If we do BLV, does anyone have suggestions as to which view they would pick? sooo many decisions to make and I have to do it by this January.

Oh it was an adventure, and we enjoyed every minute of it! Was one of the best things we have done in our lives. We moved to England right after getting married so we had no responsibilities! We got on a plane, with no jobs, no where to live and just thought we would see what happens.

If you ever get the opportunity I say go for it!

Well we went to Saratoga Springs because when we bought our DVC we got a free Saratoga stay and 250 points bonus. It was quite the deal. So we banked the extra 250 points, and stayed at Saratoga , this was the trip we paid for my mom to go. She lived in ND, while we at the time lived in NJ. I think I forgot to mention how this pre trip is a reunion. My mother, myself and 1 brother live in ND. I have 1 brother in MN, and 1 sister in NJ. My two oldest kids are in NJ. So when this trip comes in Jan 2013, this is the reunion part. Anywho.. some highlights..

Our first night there,, mom came the next day... our first time at T-Rex,, horrible pic, so hard to get a good pic with a crappy point & shoot.. but we enjoyed the experience..
