OK, I understand sneaks are comfy, but I LOVE my flip flops (plain old navy kind nothin fancy) and I was planning on taking them when we go in May. I know there is a lot of walking, but I was in Vegas last July (talk about HOT) and i wore them the entire trip, walks up and down the boardwalk and everything. So what I was wondering, is Disney even MORE walking than that? If i was fine then, should i be fine in Disney too? I know I will bring sneaks too, but i hate how they look with shorts/capri's/skirts.

Thanks!

Megan

48 days till our first family trip to DISNEY WORLD!!!! :cool1: :cloud9:

all you do is walk, although you might run if the bus is about to leave

my dd 15 wore her flip flops most of the time and they were the old navy type and she was fine..... except everyone in lines kept stepping on the back of the flip flop..... she was a little fustrated about that.... vicki

I read somewhere that the average person walks about 8 miles a day while at Disney. I know I couldn't do that in flip flops. Flip flops do not give you any arch support. I wouldn't worry about how I look with the tennis shoes in shorts or capris. More important to take care of your feet so you can enjoy you time at WDW. Nothing worse than being there and being unable to walk without pain. Good luck. :goodvibes

I use to be a strict "if you going to be at an all day walking event (i.e. zoo, amusement park, theme park) you have to wear tennis shoes kind of girl". But last year my daughter begged me to wear her plan old flip flops which she normally lives in to the park. She assured me that they did not hurt one bit by the end of a long walking day. I decided to try mine since I live in mine as well. No problem either. After a few days my legs were tired but I am pretty sure they would have been no matter what. I decided just to switch to Tennis Shoes for one day for the good arch support. So basically, I would say if you are use to the flops go for it. I, as well as my daughter were fine, but I always wear the flops for like 2 days and then the tennis shoes for one just to even things out.

Many swear by Tevas and Crocs, which do not fit the walking shoe/sneaker ideal IMO. There are many places in WDW where your feet can get wet and flip flop straps can be irritating.

One year I used a pedometer for measuring my walking. I covered just over 7 miles a day at Epcot alone. It was pretty much a normal Epcot day for me.

My daughters and I wear flip flops in all but the coldest weather. We are park open to close people and we have never had a flip flop related foot problem. My girls are more likely to complain if they wear their sneakers!
I agree that the biggest danger is getting your toes stepped on in crowds or someone steping on the back.

I would never consider wearing anything but tennis shoes. I have very comfortable sandals that I will wear all summer; however, when I tried them at WDW my feet hurt. It was like they were rubbing on one location for too long. If you like your flip flops wear them. Bring a back up pair of shoes too. After one day you will know what will work for you.

Every time we go to WDW we always wear our Rainbow brand flip flops and never have a problem.

We just got back yesterday. One of our bus drivers said that if you visit all the lands at Animal Kingdom, you will walk 7 miles.

In Epcot, the average is 5 miles.

Both DH and I are distance runners, and we wear our most comfortable, broken-in running shoes. I personally prefer Sauconey. Since all the walking is on hard concrete, we need the extra stability and support.

I read somewhere that the average person walks about 8 miles a day while at Disney.

I have read this as well, but I don't believe it. I think this distance is greatly exaggerated. On our last trip, my husband brought his portable Garmin GPS and kept track of how far we walked each day. We visited all areas of every park and never walked more than 4 miles, at the most.

I have been taking my pedometer to WDW on every trip for the last 8 years, and writing down how much I walk every day since I started keeping a trip journal in 1999.

I average about 7 miles a day in most of the parks, with Epcot being more like 8-9.

My record high is 14 miles in one day, at Epcot, of course.

I re-calibrate the pedometer every year before I go, so it's reasonably accurate, as pedometers go.

Most days I wear my Nike sandals that have dive suit material on top. They are very comfortable and I actually have less foot pain with them then I do when I wear sneakers.

I take my perdometer on every trip and I find I walk about 8 miles a day if I spend the morning and evening at parks. On trips where I spend the entire day in the park it is usually closer to 10. I wear sneakers because my feet and legs need the support but I haveseen people in everything, I would definately say flip flops are better than high heels and I have seen people in those.

:sunny: My daughters and I wore our Teva flip flops the whole time at WDW and had no problem with them. Wearing our sneakers are much more uncomfortable.

I wear tennis shoes normally, and I completely understand about not liking the look. However, comfort trumps fashion in my case. A few days that I knew we were going to be back to the room for a swim in the early afternoon I wore my sandals and was fine.

I also have tracked it and we walked 7-11 miles everyday. I walk alot at home, though so it wasn't too much for me. Hubby was another story, though. ;)

WOW, first of all that is so awesome about the mileage we are all walking when we are in the Parks. I am so glad people have done that, as YES, it does feel like some days we have literally walked for miles....omg, I guess we DID!!! Possibly one reason why it seems I eat my heart out at WDW and never seemed to gain more than a few lbs. when we are there....!!!!!! :goodvibes

I buy EVER time we go, a brand new pair of Reebok Princess (white) sneakers($30.00). They are so comfy and never need any break in time AND the always look so nice. They also go with everything you wear. I really like when I am in the Parks a shoe that ties as vs flip flops. Sometimes, we find ourselves running to catch a bus and flip flops would not be ideal for that. And like the other poster said, people tend to step on the backs of flip flops.

We're a flip flop family as well. I just bought my hubby and I our first pair of Teva flip flops. Wow! They have lots of cushion and are very comfy. They can also get wet which is a real plus in my book!

I also don't understand the high heels in amusement parks. But I swear you always see some women with these horribly uncomfortable(but I'm sure very fashionable) looking shoes on. Wonder how their blister situation is at the end of the day?

Lots of walking. My last Disney trip I walked 63 MILES! Holy cow!!! High was 10 miles @ Epcot & low of 4 miles (kind of a 3/4 day) @ MGM. LOTS of walking, standing, & waiting....
