I'm always looking for a bargain...

Our check card thru Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) is linked to rewards. I went to check how many points we have and what we can get. I usually go for gift cards, but I see a "travel" category. Within that there is "Airfare"... so I click on it and do a mock booking on the JetBlue flights I'm looking at.

5000 points = $62.50 off!!! So the flights I'm looking to book are right now $262.40, using our points, they go down to $199.90. Now... if they will just go down to $79 each way for my dates, we'll pay only $116.90 per ticket!!!

Just wanted to share this great discount with everyone!!!

PS - posting to budget board too.

Yes, 1 point per $4 spent - but, if I shop online through the "Earn More Mall", then I get up to 16 points per $ spent.

But most of your points are earned at the rate of 1 point per $4 spent? Wow,that is not much. That means you spent $20,000 to get those 5,000 points or $62.50 discount. Using Disney Visa you'd get $200 for that same $20,000 spent. And using my Amex Blue card, I'd get even more than that.

When it was Wachovia, I earned 1 point per $. Then when they merged, the points transferred. The point price per reward is alot less than when it was with Wachovia rewards, so most of my points were already in my account - plus both my card and my husband's are linked to the one points account.

I wouldn't depend on this for rewards, really, but the points were there and I can use them. What I actually did is an account credit (cash in my checking) of $100 per 10,000 points, because to book the airfare, they charge $24 per ticket. This way I just use that cash back and save.

I was so excited in my original post, that I didn't read the fine print! Lesson learned.

That actually reminded me of the British Awards Executive Club. They have family accounts so family members can pool their miles together for a single award ticket.

It is something people on this board might consider enrolling in since its unlikely a child traveling infrequently would earn enough miles for a free ticket, but a family of 4 traveling once or twice a year pooling their miles together could easily earn a free ticket.

They also have a credit card that earns 1.25 miles per $1 spent.

**You can earn and redeem British Airways miles for American Airlines flights.**

Don't most husbands and wives have cards to the same account for credit cards? :confused3 All of our cards are like that. One account with two cards for us to use to charge.

Well the OP was referring to a check card. I presume the husband and wife had separate checking accounts linked to one points account but maybe I am wrong.

If you were referencing my post, I am referring to a family frequent flyer account. So while credit card miles for a husband and wife can be credited to the same account in most programs, miles you earn by flying can usually only be credited to the individuals account. The BA account allows miles earned by flying from each individual to be pooled together into a family account so you can reach awards faster.
