Really, Etsy????

What I don't get about the whole Etsy thing is how come Disney doesn't contact these people? Didn't they call Amy Mickey about her designs/website? You'd think they would be ALL over these people!!
And $15 for that design!!! I only discovered this part of the boards last November and from what I have learned through jtanddolly's tutorial, I could very easily make that, and that's not saying a whole lot!!

$15.00. HA!! If that's worth $15 then I owe you guys a FORTUNE!!!

I'm sure they will eventually. I know I've seen the number of "Disney" labeled things have diminished....or I should say they have just renamed them to things like Miss Mouse in stead of Minnie Mouse. I actually started my etsy site making baby gifts. One of the things I started making was a tag blanket. My son absolutely loved his ( a gift from a friend that she paid a fortune for in some boutique) so I thought I could make some similar ones. Turns out that the concept of sewing ribbons to fabric has been patented by taggies, inc and they removed all of my items that even resembled tags on them. So, I'm sure Disney will come after them, when they can make it a worthwhile investigation.

I find it very sad that someone would pay $15 for what this seller on Etsy is offering............99% of the designs on this board blow this away! The DISigners here have given so much happiness and pixiedust that I hope we can all find a little comfort in being better than that!

Well said! I personally haven't designed anything on here, but you guys have made some of the most incredible designs for my family as well as for the thousands of other DISers. Definitely some pixie dust in that!

Hi Sweetie - hope all is well with you!!!! In my other post - you may have seen that I mentioned some DISigners work had been stolen - I was of course talking about your work as well as mine and a couple of others - it's a shame, because you ARE one of the BEST we had around here - you are sincerely missed!!!

As some of you know I am a pin collector. Lately China has been putting out lots of "scrapper" pins. They are rip offs of the official pins put out. In my email to Disney complaining about this I wrote that they don't hesitate to go after people who are making Designs using Mickey, but they aren't touching the factories that make scrappers, the people who sell the scrappers and Disney related designs on Ebay. It's frustrating. & it isn't fair that I can't look through new DISigns from favorite DISigners and customize myself because there are people out there ripping them off. it isn't fair.

No we do NOt have or need special permission.
We do NOT charge for any of the DISigns or time we offer to other DISers.
Many --(myself included recently) have had our DISigns taken and sold for profit by Etsy sellers.I am obviously not an Etsy fan as can be seen in my photobucket where I politely ask Etsy sellers to stay out of my photobucket.
Sorry this is a very "Hot topic' for me.

OK rant over back to being the calm Bababear that I am.

I completely understand the hot topic for designs stollen being a victim myself. I was curious because I see so much out there and think "how do they get away with this?" I've drawn my own characters when I can't find a clip art I need but it's only been for my kids - nothing sold b/c I know better (with an advertising degree). Very tricky waters.

Yes, I'm appalled! And they sell them on other sites too. This is one of the reasons I do not DISign.

You can report unauthorized designs to the site and to Disney.

Warning - rant on

I design professionally. When I sell a design or share a design in a forum, I follow the designer's terms of use for all of the graphics I use, and only use graphics that I have license or permission to use commercially. I give proper credit on the design and/or in my terms of use. And the designers who use my graphics or designs give me the same consideration. If a designer says I can't share any of their graphics in a forum, I don't share a design with their graphics in any forum. If I put a design on the internet, I might have to watermark it with SAMPLE to obey a designer's terms of use. And the right to use the graphics I use isn't free, most of the time. I purchase the commercial rights to use graphics, so the designers are properly compensated.

Is it a pain to check each time I use a designer's graphic to make sure I adhere to the terms or use? Yes, but it is the right thing to do. And it keeps me legal and in business.

Disney is gracious to "let" us use their artwork for personal use. Wonderful DISigners on this forum freely share their talents with us at no charge for our personal use only. All they ask is that we do not sell or profit from their designs and only use them for our personal use. Those are their terms of use (TOU), and I am happy to respect and abide by their TOU.
