And maybe just a bit angry too.

I just got an email from disney saying I'm not being considered anymore, and I NEVER even got a WBI. I waited two weeks for a WBI with the hope that I wasn't going to be cut until I got the chance to prove myself. It was completely unfair of Disney to ignore me for weeks and then never even give me a chance to provide more information than just my name and other basics.

Has this happened to anyone else here? Should I try to get in contact with someone from the college program?

Same, I applied on the 24th cause I didn't know when apps were out nor if it was a possiblity and I got the email today that i'm NLIC without a WBI.

This is probably going to come across as rude, but I promise, it is not intended to be. It's just a result of words on a screen with no vocal inflection or visual cues to carry meaning. So please, read it in your "nice person" mental voice. :)

Welcome to the Real World®, where our motto is "life isn't fair". If I had a nickel for every time I submitted an application online and either was told I was not being considered without having spoken to anyone, or just was flat out never given a response of any kind, I wouldn't need to look for a job.

Something in your preliminary application either tripped the system to automatically spit you out as a "no", or the positions you applied for were filled before they got to your application. Is it fair that you didn't get to wow them with your WBI? No. Does it suck that you won't get into the DCP this time around? Absolutely. But try again next semester. And good luck. :)

Sadly, this is a part of their new system. Apparently not everyone is getting a WBI this time around. It's actually very similar to how they do their PI applications. I've literally stayed in progress on those until the end without ever getting a single notification of my progress or them expressing any interest. Rest assured, you aren't alone, and I'm very sorry that happened to you.

Anything that has to begin with a disclaimer about not trying to come across as rude is, in fact, rude. Does it somehow make you feel superior to invalidate my feelings? I know how the "real world" works; I'm not an idiot. I came here simply to vent my frustration to what I thought was a supportive community. Please feel free to take a moment and look up the word "vent" in a dictionary before I continue.

I only think that a company such as Disney, with an extensive, online-based application process, should at least have the common courtesy to send each of its applicants a quick questionnaire. From what I've heard, this is how it happened in the past — no matter the number of applicants. I realize that companies are in no way required to do this; it is only my personal opinion that they should, and I will leave it at that.

Good luck to you too.

For what it's worth, I found their comments inappropiate and (in a nice voice) worthless.

Here's a solution-driven question: What roles did you apply for? My kids and their college-classmates applied for many positions but all got QSFB.

Vent: verb (used with object)
to give free play or expression to (an emotion, passion, etc.): to vent rage.

Yes, I understand what venting is. But you posted on a public message board. Did you expect that you would only receive "OMG that was so mean and horrible to do that to you!!" messages, and nothing else?

Disney receives tens if not hundreds of thousands applications. They have a system set up that filters applications based on whatever they feel is important at that time. HR hires people; they're not in the business of going through the motions to make people feel better. I stand by my initial thought that either something in your initial application tripped their "decline" sensors, or they had filled all the positions you applied for before they got to your application. Again, I'm sorry this happened to you, but not everybody gets accepted.

I've had instances where I've applied for the same job twice, once with my normal resume, and once with a resume that was still mine, but I'd replaced words to match their "keywords" in the job posting. One received a response, the other didn't. So yes, certain things can kick you out of an automated system without a human ever seeing your application, or even getting to the next level of the automated system.

Would it really have made you feel better if you'd gotten a WBI and then were told you didn't get the job? Or would you be like a number of other posts I've seen and start obsessing over what you did "wrong" in the WBI and what other people put for answers and on and on?

I never invalidated your feelings. I simply gave you a frame of reference for them. Situations like this will come up multiple times in your life. Saying "that's not fair" comes across as childish.

You applied way too late in the semester to be considered for the next step. Majority of the positions have been filled up already and this is a very competitive internship. First come, first serve. Apply again next semester with a better attitude.

FWIW, I found absolutely no rudeness in your comments. I am familiar with your posting style and your general personality, though, so maybe OP just isn't aware of how nice you actually are. :goodvibes

OP, sorry it didn't work out for you this time. Hopefully you will get further in the process next time should you decide to try again. Best of luck to you.

My final thoughts: "Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours burn any brighter."

It's the honest truth. Everyone knows the Disney college program is highly competitive and you need to apply early so your chances will be greater. I have already been accepted.
Not everyone makes it to the WBI or pass it.

It really amazes me how so many people post on here like they work for Disney recruiting and know exactly how the application process works :rotfl2:

I doubt anyone from Casting/recruiting pays much attention to this site. However, enough of us have gone through the process a couple times and share our experiences, those experiences allow us to draw conclusions....some are more passionate than others in their opinions.

I think it has a lot to do with when you apply. Since apps are constantly rolling, spots fill up fast. That's just how it goes. I applied late last semester and got pended and denied. This time I applied the day after apps came out, was pended but accepted.

I know there are many many people on the FB group that applied last semester and were stuck in submission only to be NLIC, then accepted this semester.

Try again, apply early. It sucks I know how a big fat NLIC feels, but it just wasn't the right time. Maybe next semester is.

I just mean this

Like really? How can you say something like that? Unless you yourself work for Disney Recruiting there is no way you can possibly know that as a fact. Not trying to start a fight or anything, but this is one of the many posts i've seen on these boards stating things about DCP as if they know the recruiting process from the inside.

:mic: /rant

Disney Casting (in general) and College Program Recruiting (in specific) have metrics that they look at, and use throughout the recruiting process. There are certain numbers of positions that are open, certain arrival dates, etc. Being that I don't work in Casting, I have no way of knowing what they are.

With that being said, people find out that they're accepted before they close the application, so it is probably safe to assume that applying earlier is better. Other than that, there's no specific formula that anyone on this board can point to. Perhaps they only take so many people with a specific major? Perhaps only so many from a particular state? Perhaps the nametag engraving company is running out of the letter "Y", so they can only take so many people with a Y in their name. (Ok, probably not the last one, but the point I'm trying to make is that nobody really knows why anyone is accepted or rejected, regardless of how many theories we come up with)

I don't think that someone posting to say that they're disappointed calls for a response that the real world is tough. I'm sure the OP already knew that. They just wanted a chance to express their feelings, and maybe get a little sympathy. No need to attack.

Thank you! Exactly what im saying

I am really sorry for your disappointment.

In Jilly's defense, I do think she meant well. Her advice is the advice I would give to my own child in this situation. I have noticed, from a management perspective, that the one thing that holds people back in the workplace is the tendency to complain about "fairness" in hiring decisions. Venting about disappointment is perfectly healthy, but once someone posts the "it's not fair" attitude, they could be hurting their own future. My kids are young, and I have spent considerable amount of time trying to figure out how to give them the ability to put these things into perspective because I think it is that important. I think Jilly was trying to do that for the OP.

Very sorry that has happened to you. A few of my alumni friends have also experienced that same thing. They change a lot each semester, the amount of people applying is growing and the amount of spots are limited. While there is no rhyme or reason at some point (Possibly applying earlier I am inclined to believe does help because I know Photopass was filled by the middle of March), not everyone gets their WBI.

Could also be due to the roles applied for or multiple other reasons. Unfortunately that is the system they use and sometimes they can't interview all 50,000 applicants so through some way they decide who and who not to WBI, and unfortunately that is considered fair. Try again next year! Some of my friends had to apply 3-4 times before being accepted!

I'm so sorry you didn't get a chance. My own DD applied her Freshmen year, and didn't get past the application process. She was Crushed!! It really hurt her feelings. But guess what, she re-applied this past Spring (3 years later)exactly on the day they started accepting applications, and this time got in!!!

Keep your head up. It's ok to be disappointed, that just means you really wanted to get this opportunity. Try again next time, and keep trying until you get what you want!!
