Really confused about AP's and dining plan.

I am totally confused. As a DVC member can I buy an AP and put the dining plan on my reservation or do I have to buy a one day regular park ticket like I did before I became a DVC member?

as a DVC member you DO NOT have to buy a ticket to add the dining plan!! I love that us DVC members have this option

If you're staying at a DVC resort on points 1 April or after, you can add it without any of the other issues.

I was able to add the dining plan to my stay on points. MS never asked about park tickets. We have AP's from a previous visit. You have to add the dining to your stay before you arrive and then pay at check in was what I was told.

I suspect you are confusing the dining plan with the DDE card.
