Really concerned about May....

Wow - there is little availability during my travel dates, I have searched under AP, FL resident and rack rate. AKL is no longer available, nor the Poly, nor the mods! Some values are left and FW too.....
we love going in May and I guess the secret is out and everyone else wants to go too! I was hoping it would not be that crowded but I am truly afraid it is going to be.

Its not going to be as bad as you think. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, when you get to be a few weeks out, availability is hard to find at some resorts- especially small ones like the Polynesian.

Last May was the kick-off of the 50th Celebration at WDW and EVERYONE was saying it was going to be insanely crowded-- and it wasn't at all. I think its going to be less crowded this May than it was last year.

What are your dates for May??

It's just that attendance is starting to get close to where it was in the late 1990s, so the hotels are somewhat busier than they were over the last few years and fewer discounted rooms are available.
Expedition Everest is a pretty big draw and will prevent numbers from dropping too far this year compared to last, if at all. The AK is likely to end up being the #3 at WDW this year!

You do have the Universities getting out soon, Florida residents with seasonal passes still able to go, Everest, the Flower and Garden Festival AND Star Wars Weekends - so it will certainly not be dead like some other times of the year. But it shouldn't be peak-season busy either.

We're going in May (22-30) and are worried about the crowds, too. We went the last week in May 2 yrs ago and it wasn't crowded at all. This year I personally know 4 families going this week, too. I hope it isn't as crowded as mid June. We went then last year, and it was just too much for me.

We are going the 16-21....last year we walked around Epcot and enjoyed characters in every country all to ourselves.....I was hoping for the same this year!

Lillygator-We just (2 days ago!) booked a 3 night, 4 day weekend stay May 19-22 at POFQ. I think the reason for the limited availability is that those dates are only 4 weeks away. I wouldn't worry about the crowds so much. Most people book their trips many months in advance, so when you get within 4 weeks, a lot of things are booked. Good Luck!

We will be there from May 20 - May 28th and hoping to not have horrible crowds! We have been there in December during the week of Christmas but never have been in May. 28 days and counting!

I would book something as back up then call each morning and see if there are any openings. ALOT of ppl do double bookings and they're going to be canceling in the next few weeks (6 days out to keep from a penalty).

I just called last night and booked Poly GV for a last-minute Mother's Day weekend trip for my mom, my aunt and myself and got an AP rate. I booked May 12-15. I was surprised I was able to get an AP rate.

I am a little worried we are going the end of May and I couldn't get a PS at Ohana for dinner before 8:15 at night.

My daughter's entire high school band is going 5/25-29. There will be a lot of bands there at that time.

it's already HOT here in FL!! It is so hot today!!! The evenings are quite nice though!

Is there a band event at the end of May for multiple schools?

Lillygator- I think your visit is during star wars weekend. I could be wrong but I was thinking it was the 19th-21st. Maybe thats why its a little busier?

We're going May 18-22. That weekend is the Disney Doll and Teddy Bear Convention in Epcot so that could be another reason why it's busier. It was in a different month in the past. Based on years past, there a maybe a couple hundred attendees plus the artists and company representatives there. People from the event usually stay at CBR and BC. We're staying at BWI though.

We are going May 14-May 20. We went that same week last year and it was perfect. The weather was hot but not unbearable, it wasn't insanely crowded (the longest lines were BTMRR & Splash Mtn at an hour each) It also never rained!
