My dad just got over lung cancer about a year ago. There was only a 2% chance of beating it and he did!
Today he went for a cardiac catherization and they found 3 of his arteries were 90% blocked!
The surgeon now has to consult with the oncologist and another Dr. if surgery can be done. I think he got the go ahead from the oncologist, but we are still waiting to hear what happens next.
This has really thrown me for a loop because nobody saw it coming. He's had no chest pains, palpatations or anything.
He went because he had had a cold he couldn't shake and thought the tiredness and shortness of breath was from that. They decided to err on the side of caution and do a stress test. Thats how it came about.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers if you don't mind.
Thanks!

Thoughts and prayers being sent.

Wow, sounds like he's really had a tough time with it all. I guess the good news is that they found the blockage before he had a heart attack.

Let us know what the doctors say and when he might have surgery.

In the meantime, I'll keep you, your dad and family in my thoughts and prayers for a successful outcome. :wizard: :goodvibes :grouphug:

did he have chemo? Unfortunately chemotherapy ruins your arteries. It is the stuff that you don't hear so much about. You worry about beating cancer then the heart problems start if you survive.
Prayers for you family. Hopefully they caught it in time and can help him.

Sorry about your Dad. As a cardiac nurse I can tell you it's not uncommon for people to be unaware they have coronary artery disease. It is good it was found before he had any problems. If his oncologist ok'd it, he must be fairly stable and have a pretty good prognosis.

Also, having had 3 types of chemotherapy myself, :worried: I can tell you that certain chemo agents are known to increase the risk of heart failure (i.e. a weakened heart muscle), but not coronary artery disease. So even in your father did have chemo, his CAD is more than likely a result of his family history and lifestyle/habits, not chemo. There are many things that can be done today, so you and your Dad - stay strong.

Wishing him and you well. :grouphug:

Wow...I did not know that...

And OP...your dad is in my thoughts. :grouphug:

I'm wishing your family all the best. Since your Dad was able to beat steep odds to survive lung cancer, hopefully he can get through this crisis also. :goodvibes Sorry you're all having to go through this.

I am sorry to hear that and I know it sounds bad, but they found it before there was a heart attack and that is great news, really. Bypass surgery has come a long way, it amazes me what they can do. They often have people up and walking the same day as the surgery.

Your Dad must be a strong guy to beat lung cancer. He can beat this too.

A prayer is said for you and yours. I'm glad that he is aware of his body. Many people would have just ignored it until it was too late.

My dad almost did that. He was on his way to the grocery store when he felt "unwell" (his word). He just happened to be next to the Naval Hospital when it occured. (His pains were going on for 1 month. He thought he pulled a muscle mowing the lawn.)

Cathy, sending Prayer's and good thought's for your Father. Keep us posted. :grouphug:

I'm hoping things go well. I'm glad they found out about it in time.

I'm sorry that your Dad has had so much trouble. It seems so unfair. Keep us posted and you hang in there.
